Novastrike 0 Posted October 11, 2009 Hello Guys, I have just entered the world of the VW corrado and need some help getting her all fixed up and good as new. Currently, there are a couple of issues that i would really appreciate some advice on (i.e costs & difficulty) and i sincerely apologise if these topics are covered elsewhere. Problem 1: Heater (a common problem i believe!!) Its only blows out cold air :( If you have it selected to hot, it blows out air at a much slower rate than cold and it is also stuck on Demister setting Problem 2: Headlight switch: The headlamp switch is really fiddly and can cause issues when trying to turn it on and off. Is this is a bit issue or something quick to fix? Problem 3: Sunroof (a common problem): It only tilts and does not go all the way back Problem 4: Steering column: When the steering wheel is at full lock, there appears to be a squeaking sound whilst the car is turning. Not noticable at any other time. Lastly, I have been tinkering my with Girlfriends VW mark 1 Caddy for a while and the bentley manuals are absolutely awesome, however, they appear alot more expensive for the Corrado's. Does anyone have any experiance with the manual CD's that you can purchase from ebay?? Many thanks to anyone that takes the time to answer one of my questions :) Cheers JP
easypops 8 Posted October 11, 2009 Welcome to the forum mate :) , as you seem to already be aware all these problems have been well covered......try using the 'advanced search' and type your key words, then choose which category. You should also state which year of car you have as the heater controls are different from early(sliders) to late(knobs) Good luck :D
vw domo 0 Posted October 12, 2009 welcome! sounds like a heater matrix change is in order,i changed mine after i brought the car and i get nice hot air now for those cold mornings :D . before you change make sure its not just an air lock. iv got one of those ebay disks aswell, they have all the right info on there its just a bit hard to navigate, not as basic as the bently manuals. if you ask the right questions on the search you will get all the answers you need.........good luck. weetos 0 Posted October 12, 2009 Problem 4: Steering column: When the steering wheel is at full lock, there appears to be a squeaking sound whilst the car is turning. Not noticable at any other time. JP wheel spacers needed rubbing on inner arch towards the front or don,t go full lock lol!
Novastrike 0 Posted October 12, 2009 Hi Guys, Thanks for the quick responses :) Its a 1994 so I have late controls (dials) although i hope it is an airlock as i am not looking forward to removing the dash to change the heather matrix :) Many thanks JP
mimjed 0 Posted October 12, 2009 i would assume full lock problem to be power steering pump/belt. check tension/bit of anti slip spray on the belt is a good test to see if its the belt. can have the pressure tested on the pump at a a garage. headlight switch - quite a few cars get broken on here :( look out for one, quite cheap. heating is normally a replacement job - again parts for sale maybe. you can buy sunroof repair kits, not sure if or how well they work.....no sunroof on mine
Novastrike 0 Posted October 12, 2009 Thanks Alot, I will get that looked into!! I am going to tackle the heating matrix this weekend and will therefore be taking the dashboard out. Is there anything in particular I should look out for whilst I have it off or is there anything that anyone would suggest upgrading whilst I have it off? I am keen to keep it as close to the original as possible but any subtle improvements would be great :) Thanks JP
mimjed 0 Posted October 12, 2009 change the bulbs why you have it off! saves taking it off again. haven't changed anything on my dash other than the clocks. ah and check spoiler mech is working before you bolt it back in
easypops 8 Posted October 12, 2009 Sounds like your heater controls need fixed too.......maybe best to pull them out and have a fiddle with the heat bowden cable, before you rip the dash out :D look here.. http://wiki.the-corrado.net/late_heater ... epair.html
vw domo 0 Posted October 13, 2009 http://www.corrado-club.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8848 this is the one i used, helped me through the procedure. good luck! if you find that all the foam flaps that controle the direction of the air have disintegrated it might be worth sorting that out, i cleaned them up and replaced the foam with lino, worked a treat! ps. be really gentle with the center console, its rather brittle :? Novastrike 0 Posted October 18, 2009 Thanks for your help guys. I started the job yesterday and it was a bit of a monster. The previous owner had completely bi passed the heater matrix to avoid taking it out!!! Whilst I was taking everything out i have noticed a few things that need fixing and could do with some advice. 1. Headlight switch. The only thing wrong with this is the one of the plastic prongs that comes from the actual switch cover has broken. Europarts was £53 quid for a replacement and it seems an awful lot of money when the actual mechanics of the switch work fine!! 2. Headlight loom. I have heard this can be upgraded. Is this an easy job? how long will it take? can the original bulbs be replace with Xenon's (i am sorry but i really like them!!) 3. Where can I buy the little fuses that fit into the glove box light? 4. is the carpet for a biege cloth interior the same as a tan leather interior. Many thanks JP
