a well overdue HELLO to all!

i thought id better actually get on and do this as iv been meaning to for a long time but have been delaying it till i had fixed the corrado a bit.

 

i brought my 2l 16v about 3 years ago from a guy in wembley and as is the great British weather it was raining when i went to view it :?

i paid £1900 for it with 110,000 miles on the clock which i thought wasn't bad although when i got it back there where quite a few places where the lacquer was peeling and a fair few parking dings that you couldn’t see in the wet, either way i was still chuffed with it!

i soon after bumped into dan vw at breeze and he pointed me in the direction of the forum! :clap:

This is my list so far with alot of help from everyone on the forum:

Changed heater matrix (re-built the flaps and controls whilst i was at it)

Welded hang brake after the mot garage ripped it up :bad-words:

Ignition switch

3 x 6” pioneer speakers (rear)

Alpine sxe speakers (front)

Re-sprayed sun roof

Changed rear calipers, disks and bearings

new brake bias valve

i made up a plastic bit to stop the bonnet catch denting the slam panel, not sure whats meant to be on there as it was like this when i bought the car.

i also reduced the angle of the catch by welding the stopper, so i dont have to hammer the bonnet closed any more.

i saw people had ran there cables for there i pods through the cubby hole in the center console and its a really good idea! got about 4Gb of music on that memory stick so i dont have to clutter the car up with cd's, doesn't jog over the bumpy roads either.

i did really like them but they started to corrode and one was buckled so i got the tsw's.

only got £20 for them on ebay :(

If you want to refurb any wheels I know a local company who will shotblast and prime them for £10 each.

Looking good. Can't go wrong with TSW wheels really :) I'm currently looking at new wheels for my Corrado and it's a bloody nightmare getting the measurements perfect. I finally bought a set of 17 inch wheels today in a design I liked and then when weighing them in Mr Haywires wheel/bathroom scales found they were 9.9kgs each! :( Typical

well typically i was half way through changing the rocker cover gasket and the heavens opened so i dug out my VW/fishing brolly and hey presto! it fits! had to take a photo for the comedy value. :D

 

took me about a year to find those TSW's, weighing up cost, diameter, width, offset, ect. not sure on the weight but they cant be far off 10kg each. really like the wheels but would like to sort out the offset at the back with a spacer behind the hub at some point.

needs a bit of a lower as well when i can afford it. :norty:

I was under the impression you could only fit 280 brakes on a valver and not the 288's unless you decided to go 5 stud.

 

Is this not the case then?

 

Also, i cant find the post now but i read of someone fitting 288 calipers and carriers and putting 280 disks and pads in them anyone got an opinion on this? Will this work as per the usual 280 setup?

i got hold of some second hand mk3 calipers and carriers for the gti and got the g60 four stud disks.

your right i think, they are 280's.

make a hell of a difference! :D

Im sending a few parts out for anodizing soon, apparently the place down the road from me is one of only a few metal treatment shops in the south!

they can anodize and die aluminum clear/silver, gold orange, red, violate, blue, turquoise, black and alochrom 1000/1200.

they also treat mild steel with black oxidize or zinc oxidize and stainless with passivation and electro-polishing.

 

i can see me spending a lot of money there :? lol

small update

 

getting the corrado back on the road if i can get it through the mot this week! :D second time lucky!

 

iv removed the inlet manifold, rocker cover and altinator to clean up but iv just decided to try and leave them to soak in a bucket with some kitchen cleaner to try and get rid of the oil stains in the aluminum, not sure if this will work but i thought its worth a try.

 

having some trouble with an oil getting through the rocker cover gasket even after i replaced it with a new one :? , im hoping that the gasket sealant will help.

 

i decided to space the rear wheels out buy 10mm with the new coilovers and i saw that kipVR had done this with hisbut he hadnt kept a patern for them so i couldnt get any made up in advance. so heres what i did....

cut and file to 85 x 80

clamp to stub axle and spot through (there should be a rough outline where its been bolted to the axle that you can line the plate up with on the stub axle)

then all you have to do is file a little bit out for the abs sensor, i bought some new m10 x 50 long bolts aswell.

 

i was going to clean and anodise everything but i think il try and clean everything myself and paint some underseal over the aluminum spacers to stop them from oxidizing.

 

also fitted a new brake pressure regulator as the old one was knackered

tried to fit a new fuel filter and in the process split the hose from the accumulator to the filter (almost £40 for a 30cm hose!) :epicfail:

 

still to go is:

freeing up rear brakes and fitting new pads (waiting on piston wind back tool)

fitting suspension

de-gunking the engine and bay

clean and lacquer wheels

new redge plates

welds on exhaust

fit new o rings on injectors and new housings

shes back on the road again after a long winter.

 

didnt pass the mot first time so that gave me a chance to fix a few bits and get the coilovers on :

 

new compensator valve

fuel filter (was the most difficult thing i think iv ever changed on the car! lol)

injector o rings and plastic housings

abs sensor (even tho the abs is still not working :? )

registration plates

new battery

 

i also cleaned the rocker cover, inlet, injector housings and alternator with a bit of cillit bang and some scotch bride, came up a treat!

Petrol gauge stopped working the other day on my drive down to newquey so i took the pump out and the thing had actually fallen apart in my fuel tank :suprised:

 

The arm wit the float had fallen off along with the little metal clip and the bottom filter so i had to fish around in 10 galons of fuel (filled it up as i had no idea how much fuel i had) but final got it all back together and working
