Adam M 0 Posted November 27, 2002 Hi, my first post on here so thanks in advance. Looking for a non vag dealer simpl to fiure out what is wrong with my car. minor squeak akin to a slipping belt. could be fan belt or alternator, dont know if it could be supercharger. could have a vw dealer do it, but in my experience, enthusiasts are better. Adam M 0 Posted November 27, 2002 you did well to get the username vr6, clearly a founder member! it does it while stationery in neutral and in the gears. but not at idle. steering is of no consequence. It is engine speed related above roughly 1500 rpm. I noticed it for the first time today and it was definitely raining. Not linnked to the windscreen wipers though as I turned them off. Banana Man 0 Posted November 28, 2002 It'll probably be your alterenator belt slipping if it was your p/s belt your steering would be feeling a bit stiffer lock to lock, or if it was your charger belt you would be losing power so I would say that 9 times out of ten your alternator belt is the culprit making the noise it's an easy fix just need to tension up the belt with a spanner a bit.Or you can try http://www.gpcvwaudi.com/ they do some cheap parts for corrado's as well hope this helps
Adam M 0 Posted November 28, 2002 the mechanic working on my impreza had a listen with a screw driver and thinks the noise is coming from my supercharger itself. Bit concerned about this. Have stopped driving the car on the recommendation of TSR. Going to remove it and send it to them or jabbasport. Would like to be able to drive it to jabbasport as peterborough isnt that far from london. Does anyone have any other suggestions? it cant hurt to get the thing overhauled at 70k anyway, since it will need doing at some point. Rather sooner than wait for it to be irreparable. too hot 0 Posted November 29, 2002 Hi, I had a similar problem to that of yours on my G60, I tried numerous local experts but in the end bit the bullet and took the car to a main dealer. I was like you and feared the worst thinking the charger was on the way out.It turned out to be a bearing had partially siezed on the main cam belt pulley at the crankshaft end. They ended up fitting a new cam belt, pulley, bearing, belt tensioner etc. It cost about £130 a lot cheaper than a new charger. The noise it made sounded like a belt slipping but had a slightly more of a grinding sound to it,the was most noticeable from cold,or after the car had been sitting for a while. It also sounded as if it was coming from the area of the charger.Hope this helps. :? Banana Man 0 Posted December 1, 2002 Have a word with darren or john at PD MOTORSPORT if your going to get your charger done before you go running to jabba as they aren't that far from you either ( Rustingdon in worthing ) they have competetive prices as well. Rado16v 0 Posted December 1, 2002 Hi Adam, if you still need a garage in NW London give Yaash motorsport a try http://www.yaash.co.uk Haven't personally used them but others have recommended them. HTH Amit
