Re: Corrado Calum found an uber cool rado

Recommended Posts

Hey i have had a corrado for just shy of a year as I bought it on my birthday, for my VAG history well I had a polo if I showed picture of that I would be thrown of the forum. You could go round any corner at 5 mph and the rear FREE tyres would be screaming at you  was to be a feild car until someone tried to hot wire it for some reason, o well lucky the battery was dead.

Since I have had it, not alot has been done until recently oh yeah it a g plate 1.8 119000, couldnt resist having one after spotting a couple of them they look so good.

Immobiliser fitted profeesionally, then he wondered why the fuse box was looking a bit funny, as it was upside down. So the Electrician sorted that all out.

Timing belt change

Water pump replaced.

Central locking pump replaced

Bump strips taken off

Uprated headlight loom

Recently the engine has been removed hopefully get some pictures of the removal,

just planning on cleaning the bay up

Re tapped all of the wiring loom with some proper tape

New power Steering pipes

Changed the power steering rack, got one of the forumn as VW wanted £950 for the rack on its ownits and they could not even guarantee it was the correct rack. For some reason?

Okay so i got the subframe off I work as a Blacksmith so i blasted everything at work, we have a heavy grit not sand blaster so I took my time and made sure there was no rust left on the pieces glad I blasted it myself as it took a while even with the heavy grit.

Then proceeded to Zinga the heck out of everything and then primer then under seal thew coats of each...

Hey needing a little help, the existing steering rack seals were shot as fluid was leaking so in the rebuild I sourced a second hand rack, was told the rack would fit the car as it does ,once I had changed the splines form the inside the rack that connect onto the steering coloumn as they were differently splined. The prob was when I built the car up the wheels, they would no where near track up straight. Checked the lengths of the track rods and they were different, the second hand rack arms were longer by say 50mm. So i ordered not through VW (cost a bomb) but at Dingbro new track arms and they arrived and yet still longer than what originally came off? But the track arms were the same length as the track arms off the second hand rack?

Any info would be so much help!

Thanks

I got the steering rack rods sorted out just need to get it a MOT a couple of things it failed on headlight pattern and handbrake not working enough, the amount of time the dude had a look at the car and the time he took i am glad that was all !

I have been getting distracted as well! :D

Haha girls bike pfff nothing girly about the price of that bike

Oh yeah my car has passed its M.O.T also solved the problem of starting the car when its warm by changing all of the injectors to new ones !

I have a new accumulator to put on it once i can get a bit of pipe from the fuel filter to the accumulator sourced

found something cool on piston heads

So i got the accumulator changed to a new one, i have noticed the difference well other than one looked like a bag of rust

climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfPICT2207.JPG[/attachment:1ssb6bu0]

then in with the new one also replaced the pipe from the accumulator to the fuel filter

2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfPICT2206.JPG[/attachment:1ssb6bu0]

The brackets got the rust buffed off then zinga'd and anti stone chipped put back on with new washers and spring washers as i did not want to over tighten them due to the rubber bushings they sit on.

With it all back in situe, one of the studs did snap on me so i had to drill out the stud and replace with a shiny bolt,

My trusty jack :norty:

The accumulator got a good thew coats of anti stone chip, keep it in tip top condition!

Also some rust got attacked at the rear end

2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfPICT2212.JPG[/attachment:t3ov36km]

So next plans are to get the tank straps off blast them at work along with the rear bumper bar, its a heavy grit blaster works alot better on removing rust than a sand blaster, only thing is i am thinking every single one of those bolts are going to shear!

during the build

The throttle was sticking so badly i wasnt sure what it was so i done some investigating. The cable started to fray a bit and it was ctaching on the casing of the cable.

climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfPICT2319.JPG[/attachment:3qz6g08f]

So i trimmed the sharp pieces of and greased it up as a temporary measure .What a difference ! its so much more responsive

I cant wait to get a new one on .

The prob was mainly when changing gear the car would rev up between gear changes as the throttle was not backing off quickly enough a bit annoying when you are trying to keep a Type R from overtaking :norty:

PICT2305.JPG[/attachment:3qz6g08f]

I also made a panel to stop the water sitting ontop of the battery

So I have fitted a new fan to the radiator this is a pic of the old one, the whole fan assembly was moving backwards and forth so at some pint it would have self distruct, so I changed it before that happened.

I removed the fuel tank and the rear bumper. Then blasted the tanks straps and rear bumper bar, treated them to some Zinga and under sealed twice. Replaced the bolts also.

Since the tank was off I gave a good clean outside and inside removing any bit s rubbish in it.

The car was never the best to start when it was warm so a while back I changed the injectors so it starts fine now when its warm. You can see a picture of an old injector it looks pretty past it. The injectors must have been leaking.

Still the car was not the best for starting when it was cold, so I have replaced the in line fuel pump, the lift pump, fuel filter and I had changed the accumulator a while back. Now it starts a lot easier from cold yeppee

Since I am heading up uni at sunny Aberdeen I changed the rear brakes from the Mk2 rears to the Mk3 rears, safe to say the difference is huge on my last M.O.T I had big problems with the handbrake efficiency. So I changed the discs as well and fitted a new heat shield. So there is a picture of the old calliper which I will be glad never to see again !

Also I fitted the in line fuse for the headlight switch it only took a couple of mins to do.

So the fuel pump and the lift pump. The lift pump was tricky to change there is a metal coupling that holds onto the lift pump connection so make sure your not in to big a rush in changing it as I had to take my time to removing the old one carefully.

The in line pump was okay to change, I made sure I got a Bosch one as I wanted to make sure it would give me the correct pressure.
