Passat B5 Steering Wheel - How do you get the airbag out?

So, fun and games with the corrado this week and i'm trying to get the old steering wheel off. It is a passat b5 / 5.5 model complete with airbag. My problem is trying to get the airbag out / off. Anyone know how to do this, its got me stumped at the moment...
