Recaro seats - Ford into Corrado?

Recommended Posts

Hey All, Im thinkin about gettin a set of Recaro seats from a fiesta rs turbo to drop into the Corrado but was wondering how much work will be involved? Do the Corrado subframes have to be modified or if the seats come with the fiesta subframes can they be used?

Thanks :)

I was speaking to a car trimmer a while back and he said that the Corrado subframes for Recaros are really shallow in comparison to Recaros fitted to other cars (Mk2 golf and other VWs etc).

You'ld also have to make sure the mounting holes are in the same place as well.

Might be worth a try if you've got the time and confidence to take it on.

Best to find out the height of the subframes and the measurements for the mounting bolts on the Fiestas Recaros before you shell out on any though.

Hopefully someone on here will have details on this transplant. If not, I've got a set of Recaros currently out of the car that I don't mind measuring up if it helps

I'd be keen to know whether this works

Keep us up to speed.

I've seen this mentioned on Vortex as well, with people modding them to make them sit even lower. I think one of the American VW specialists sells a special subframe too but I can't remember who

What few Recaros I've seen all seem to have very similar mounting points underneath, so if you're lucky the Fiesta ones will be the same and you'll be able to bolt them up to the standard frames.

My car came with Audi S3 Recaro's. Last week I had to take one out and saw the way it had been fitted. Basically the Audi subframe was gone and the Corrado one welded to the bottom of the seat. All works fine, no binding or jamming. The Recaro is electric and does adjust down so the bottom of the seat will near enough touch the floor, handy when tall.

Maybe not the idea solution to your question but gives you an option?

HTH, Matt.

the recaro from a fiesta has 6 allen bolts same as recaro from a VW to bolt down to the bases that latch onto the frame of the car.

Nevertheless the recaros on ford seat a lot higher than on VWs so you will need to cut down the lowe part of the recaro seat until you get down to the frame of the seat itself and use the allen bolts i just metioned.

Then to attach them on to your corrado you can try to find an original corrado/recaro base, which is rarer to find than a ...mmm... i better not sai it, get the frmes that mikyjayne said which are good copies and will probably go as low as the originals, or find a Mk2 reacor base that will seat higher than standard, about 5 cm.

Is there any way of modifying the standard corrado subframes to accept the fiesta recaro's? or does it seam like a hunt for some not so easy to find parts is on the cards? Has anyone else heard of this special subframe from the US and dont suppose they have a UK dealer do they? :)

Thanks.

I've a set of rs recaros in my shed, sat on the corrado floor with no subframes is just a little lower than standard corrado seats, I had a lot of different ideas for makin my own subframes but got sidetracked with an engine conversion. Like someone else said above, were the bottoms meet the subframes is realy high. Out of all the ideas I had cutting the bottoms prett much off and cutting all the standard seat rails and makin all my own seemed like the best option. They also foul on the centre console alot if your a short arse like me

and run them all the way forwards

These guys http://www.wedgeengineering.net/ make the mount to sit the seat at the propper height for your car. Unlike your current seats, these mounts do not slide in the Corrado tracks. Instead you clamp it in place in your tracks at about the correct location. On top of the mount bolts a Recaro slider. The seat slides back and forth on it. Minor height adjustment is possible but it is fixed by the mounting bolts. If you can't find a set of sliders, I can sell you a pair for $75 which is about half price. Good luck, George 510 375 2071 or [email protected]

Im in the process of fitting some black Alcantara Recaro's from a DC2 Integra,

These are the same 6 bolt fixing which is common amongst all flat bottomed Recaro's.

In the end i cut the rails off the Corrado seats, you cannot bolt the recaro seat to the existing Corrado subframe, it needs to be chopped and the height adjustment mechanism binned if you want to get the seat low enough as the height mechanism essentially takes up 2/3rds of the height of the seat base.

Im using a local engineering co. that ive used before to fabricate me a frame that the recaro will bolt to and then that will be welded to the Corrado seat rails.

Cost for the fabrication is 50 quid for the pair 8) .

Ive also found another solution on Ebay:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

I was seriously thinking about using these but it wasactually cheaper to get my rails fabricated, these look like a viable alternative..

I have standard Recaros in my VR and the inside lower bolster actually fowls the centre console too when my GF drives it with the seat forward.

I doubt it, the ones from the focus are very wide at the base,

I might still have a look mind, wouldn't mind heated, electrically adjustable seats in my car :p
