not much compromise mate :D even on the roads near me it handles the bumps very well and it is so much better round the bends

Sounds good, what price did you pay, and did you have any problems fitting? (Spring caps, mounts etc)

go the kit for £270 at venom and spent some more at the stealers for new top mounts etc. the only thing with fitting was i needed a different spring cap {early} part no. 1ho 412 341. very good quality kit and fitted a treat.

Dude, looks like we starting from an almost identical base.

Look forward to see where you take this.

Can't beat a bit of Aqua Blue, colour really does look good after a polish.

My last VR6 was a standard late 1994 car so had the same late tractor ride height suspension as you.

My current VR6 is a standard 1992 car with standard springs for the age - i.e. not tractor height (VW raised them in early 1994 presumably because of complaints they were too low?).

The early springs make the car sit lower but no so low as to ruin the ride. I find its a great compromise, the ride is standard but its a bit lower looking than the late cars (esp at the rear). I'm running Monroe gas shocks all round.

It just so happens I have a nice set of early VR front springs hanging round the garage - a fiver would get them. All you would need is a pair of early VR spring caps (£25?) and a pair of rear springs from the dealers for a complete kit. PM if interested.

Have you got a gallery going mate?

Love the Aqua Blue, looks amazing in the recent sunshine.

Progress will be slow on mine I'm afraid, lots of other things have to come 1st, mortgage daughter, wife etc lol.

Not planning on too much exterior, just a healthy drop and some choice rims. (BBS RX monoblocks or BBS RS splits)

So far done the all red rears, Aero wipers front and back, and the german plates. (i.e the cheapest mods 1st lol)

Yes mate I have, and you've commented in it.

Completely understand the slow progress, i've been battling maintenance vs modding for a months now. Finally turning the corner.

Aero wipers are a must, red rears have to be done, amber is just so mid 90's. German plates ftw.

Just colour coded my rear badges at the weekend and they look so fly. Well chuffed with the outcome. Got some left over paint if you want any small items doing. Probably gunna get some more to do the reiger grill.

No news on the wheel/suspension front, she's still bone stock! Can't decide what best to go for! Saving as much as I can for KW V1's, that much is decided, just can't make my mind up on the rims. Prob leave the speedies on for the rest of this year as I've just had them re-shod, get the suspension sorted towards the end of this year, then hopefully will have decided on wheels by this time next year lol

Too many ideas, not enough cash :mad2:

Small update to the interior though, finally got round to fitting Audioscape pods, MB Quart components, and Apline V12 4 channel in the boot to power it all (will be adding an Audioscape sub enclsure in the future so the V12 will cover that too... Sounds so much nicer, just wish I'd added some sound deadening in the front doors while they were in bits. Prob gonna whip the cards off in the near future and add some...

Oh and fitted a n uprated headlight loom, as sold by KUR2Y on here. Best mod i've done.

Oh and i need the front end and passenger side painting while I'm thinking about it. haha

Gutted!

Came out of the shop to find I'd just been reversed into by a very kind lady in a BMW X3. :censored:

She's admitted liability, and will probably pay for damage without going through her insurance.

Where she's hit me is right at the very front of the passenger wing, and the impact has flattened the curve where the wing follows the line of the headlamp. Do you guys reckon the bodyshop will be able to pull this out or will it be a replacement wing, does anyone have a late Aqua Blue passenger wing if it does turn out to be the case? Its also scratched and scored the side of the bumper under the wing, so that'll need paint too.

The photo is not great, the light was fading by that point, but see what you think. The silver lining is that the wing needed paint anyway due to bubbling around the side repeater, and the front bumper needed paint too, so i suppose this will pay for that at the very least.

The ironic part is that the damage to her rear quarter is right underneath her REVERSING SENSOR!! The dimwit!

Cheers, Matt.

The woman just called me apologising again, said her hubby had gone mad and that she felt really guilty, says she will be awaiting my call tomorrow with quote prices, so it's sounding promising so far...

Glad to hear that she admitted doing the damage and didn't just leave before you came back...or even leave without even knowing that she'd hit your car for that matter ;)

I don't think that dent will "pull" out as such but I'm pretty sure a body shop will be able to repair it. The metal is still intact so I'd guess can be reshaped.

Lets hope she is genuine and will cough up the money to pay for the repair. I had a similar looking accident and that was repairable with a very good local body shop and it cost 200.

I would make sure you ask for the wing to be replaced if I were you. It's a bolt on item and saves any filler going into the car, i think most places would do that anyway. Just take it to VW to get repaired, they generally have a good standard. There is no point in gettiung done on the cheap just so she doesn't have to claim, that why she has insurance after all.

Its double skinned on the front too, theres an inner wing and obv the outer wing so not sure if that would have any affect with getting it repaired.

Getting a quote tomorrow morning, so we'll see. Fingers crossed...

Her hubby has now called, it turns out he's a guy our family have known for years (small world) so i know he's honest at least.

I'm meeting him tomorrow after the quote to discuss how he's going to pay. All good so far...

Kip, are new wings available from VW still then?

Yeah still available mate, but not cheap. But if you're not paying for it.......

I'll be heading to the VW dealers after the first quote then. When the hubby rang he assured me that either way it'd be paid for fully, if it's a cheap (£4-500) repair then he'll settle cash, if not they'll claim, which he isn't fussed about either as he has protected no claims cover.

Dealers it is then by the sound of it.

Sounds good - the fact you know they'll be honest and genuine :)

Agree with having it done at the best place tho - it wasn't your fault so u shouldn't have to 'make do'...

If they have protected no claims...why don't they just claim?? :confused4:

Because even with protected no claims, your premium the next year would still go up, because you've made a claim. No claims bonus just knocks a percentage off the price.

Oh right! But it wouldn't go up by half a grand, surely?

Go for the new wing, not likely that crease will come out cleanly.

Inner will have taken a knock too but that should pop back out ok as it looks like most of the dent is in the void between the inner and outer wing.

New wings for later models are still available new from VAG although it is going to be around £400 inc VAT, you can shove at least another £500 labour onto that bill as it's going be most of the front end getting painted to ensure a good colour match.

You might have a bit of a fight with the insurers as there is going to be little change from £1000 and if they value the car low then most companies will only repair for up to 75% of the cars value.

Spoke to VW this morning Yan, he looked up a late front wing and quoted £109.55 inc VAT?? I asked him to check again as I thought they were more expensive but he seemed positive???

Anyway, been for a quote at a local repairers, (recommended to me by my VW specialist) the bodyshop guy reckons he should be able to pull out the dent and the curve around the headlamp easily enough with a slide hammer welded to it, which would mean minimal filler used, paint the wing and full bumper, and sort a couple of car park dings (paintless dent removal) on the sides for around £400 cash.

If we take it through the insurers he can repair ONLY the damage thats been done, so I wouldn't even get the bumper painted fully. Really want the other bits doing whilst it's there, so I reckon i'm gonna go the cash route...

Spoke to the guy who's wife hit me, he seems happy enough with that sort of price to settle without going through his insurers.

So I suppose it's a case of wait and see, fingers crossed.
