Ice White Socks 0 Posted January 28, 2004 Hello, This cold weather is playing havoc with my door locks :x . Anyway I was trying to get in to the car this evening but the locks were siezed so I opened it on the remote locking, pulled the door handle but it still wouldn't open. The handle is now slack for the first centimetre of pull and won't open the door. In a bizarre twist the door locking pin came off in my hand with about three inches of metal rod attached :? Have I stretched a cable or bent a locking rod? If I had my bentley with me it shouldn't be. that difficult to work out from the diagrams. Has anyones had a door in bits before and can guess whats bent/ broken? Cheers for any help Mike

ben16v 0 Posted January 28, 2004 hate to say it but i think its the old `broken door handle trick!!` loads of threads on replacements...passat etc....but..... dealers about £90 each GPC £45 each roughly???!!!!.....
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 28, 2004 I have to agree, sounds like the handle has bitten the dust. So it's off with the door card and plastic membane I'm afraid. Sounds like you've bent one of the rods and knackered the handle, hence the locking pin falling out. Having fitted new door handles at the weekend, I can tell you it's a feckin chore in this weather and sealing up the door again is a royal PITA. Well worth doing though as new handles are slick and gives you the oppurtunity to apply 10 times more grease than VW did for longer service life. Ice White Socks 0 Posted January 28, 2004 Without meaning to sound like a retard, can't I just bend back whatever I stretched in the first place, or is that just wishful thinking!! Having fitted new door handles at the weekend, Is there anything on that car that you haven't replaced Kev- Seat bolsters, Roof strips, Door handles... Cheers
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 28, 2004 Without meaning to sound like a retard, can't I just bend back whatever I stretched in the first place, or is that just wishful thinking!! You probably can but you won't know for sure until the door is stripped unfortunately. It's probably just fallen off latch box as it sits there loose as hell anyway once the plastic knob is unscrewed. Is there anything on that car that you haven't replaced Kev- Seat bolsters, Roof strips, Door handles... I only replaced the handles because I fancied some colour coded ones, so bought new ones (£45 each from GPC - but they had to get them in from Germany) to code so that I wasn't door handle-less whilst they were being prepared. Turns out I needed new handles anyway as the old ones were on the brink of going pop and the lock barrel cam on the driver's handle had snapped in half!! Quality bit of design and workmanship! As for the other bits I've replaced.....I usually replace things that either untidy (such as the roof trims) or when I have a gut feeling they're about to go south. Put it this way, it is because of my fastidiousness that the car was perfectly reliable sitting in a 4 hour traffic jam, with numerous engine stop/starts   K

Because of the problems we read about on here, the Corrado would seemingly be the worst car to be in during a jam, but the C is actually very reliable mechanically....well I think it is anyway!
