Alfa GTV's

Alright there, after someone putting a deposit down on my cars (i really hope he comes back to get them!) i was looking around at other cars but i still come back to Corrados constantly, reckon i have issues with them! But one car has caught my eye, the GTV, the prices as well are very good. Anyone know anything about them, in either 2.0 or 3.0 form, really fancying one now,

A friend of mine was considering one, the 3.0 sounds an absolute beast with the right exhaust. The only thing I heard (from one person so it may be b****x) was that the handling wasn't that great?

 

Looks good, sounds good and the interior is nice too, just remember the reliability issues with an Alfa but otherwise a nice little car.

I've had a few conversations on the CF about GTV's......I have a GTV 3.0 Cup since new and its been a bit up and down - put it this way, when everything is right (including the road) its awesome : lovely engine when on song, long throw but satisfying box and strong brakes - however my main problem with it is the build quality, it just feels very flimsy i.e. I was pretty disappointed to have a collapsed seat side bolster go on my'n within 3 years of ownership !!!

 

Even so despite this I have owned it now for ten years and don't see myself selling it :) - suppose that says it all really.

 

EDIT : oh and it does suffer quite a bit of torque steer - makes progress more entertaining though.

my uncle has one and loves it to bits, its the 2.0

 

but i think he is very tired of how much it costs him to run. he just had the cam belts done and variator at a local alfa specialist which he always use's and ended up with a 1000 pound bill.

and i think this needs doing every 30k or so.

as far as i can tell they are very very expensive to run and service

 

as for build quality, its italian. if build quality is what your after buy german. :D

In exactly the same boat - choice narrowed down to 2 cars - a late E36 328i or a GTV V6. I'm an Alfa nut so the Alfa is more appealling to me than the BMW and I do have some knowledge ofg the GTV. The V6 is more robust than the Twin Spark engine but like all Alfa's good maintenance is key. I'm amazed at how affordable the V6 is - looking at several around the £4-4.5k mark that have full histories - I'm thinking that on a car at 7-9 years old with full history most of the weak spots will have been resolved now.

Quite strange Andy, have also had a few looks at the 328i E36! Just not sure about them, some look great but others look so dull? Even though they are the same car!

The Alfa appeals on so many levels it hurts - having real trouble convincing the OH that an Italian sports coupe with a fabulous V6 is a better bet than an older, higher mileage German repmobile

The ones i've been looking at (as have most of them) have had the work already done, cambelts, tensioners etc so i keep thinking i should be good for big bills for at least a couple years. I do want a 3.0 though over the 2.0 just for the noise if anything, is this sensible? Know what you mean about the other half, but lukily for me she loves her little old Peugeot 205 Auto!!! Strange girl.

My friend had a GTV 2.0 and another had a 3.0 V6.they both were pretty good, not as many electric faults as they expected although on 2.0 ecu broke down. They are not that well built so trim starts to rattle and break. Space in the rear is only adequte for children.

The 3.0 used to go through tyres quite quickly i dont know whether thats down to the geometry or the way he drove.

One thing is for sure, you'll miss the vr6!

Not if you get a GTV V6 you wont.

I owned one of these but refuse to comment on anything thats not a Corrado due to being labelled a Troll by one of the mods on here previously...

yep, the VR is a great engine, but the Alfa V6 is on another level - sooo much more power low down and screams onto 7000 with ease......the GTV V6 is really all about the engine !!

The OH is set on a 328i convertible, nothing decent around, I may just go and buy a GTV with the intention of just running it for a few months and hope that she falls in love with it

Yep heard the GTV V6 is one hell of an engine! Canyone tell me the differences between Ph1 and ph2, pics would be good! Might have to blag another ride in my mates brothers 147 GTA just for the noise (that thing has cost him some serious wedge @ the garage!)
