Looks good Mark - amazing the difference the shotblasting makes to the rear beam!

I'm afraid to say that the outer sleeve for the rear beam bushes needs to come out too - they're a tight interference fit in the beam. Make a note of the orientation because the new ones will need to go back in the same way. I'd also recommend getting standard OE bushes, don't bother with poly bushes.

I might send you a PM over the next few weeks regarding shotblasting if that's ok? I'm going to have some bits that'll need doing, and I'd rather pay you over anyone else!

Cheers

Tom

Hi Tom,

Been to the stealer on the way home from work. Its not good having one at the bottom of the road!!!!!!

Placed an order for about 90 quids works of parts, OEM bushes included.

Dave has been taking plenty of pics so we have something to refer to so they will go back in the right way.

Am I correct in thinking that 8mm has to be sticking out? I remember reading somewhere about the potrusion?

No problem about the shotblasting, managed to get the bloody thing running better! Just let me know and I'll pop over and collect the bits you need. Will probably drag Dave along as navigator......lol

Probably going to be Friday night as he's going to have to order everything.

Ordered

OEM bushes

Nut and Bolt for the bush

Bolt for the damper to axel

pipe clips

Brake hose (that bit that was on the axel)

A quick add up, and cost is about 90 quid. The bloke said bring 80, it'll be less with your discount! Just got to remember to be wearing my Rolls Royce T shirt! lol

Just a small update.

After shotblasting the beam and brackets, I powdercoats them.

Unfortunatly I couldn't find the right powder on Friday so had a go at PVC coating. It didn't turn out too well, and it needs a bit of work regarding the prebake and post powder temperatures, and the finish leaves something to be desired. (it leaves a ripple finish) But I'm told that a re bake flattens the finish. So I'm going to look into it over the next coulpe of weeks. The PVC is about half a millimeter Much thicker than Nylon or powder coating) thick so it'd be very durable, its also flexible with it being rubber.

As I wasn't happy with the finish on the brackets, so I shotblasted them again. Bee into work today and the gaffer brought in some 30% gloss finish powder!

Here are some pics.

Firstly a pic of the beam in the booth, its been sprayed Epoxy Brunox hence the purle colour, this is part primer and part rust converter. (smells Great!)

So, here are the bits out the oven after being baked.

Photo's are't great, in the background are the rear dics pressings. Those have been shotblasted and given a good coat of the Brunox, ready for a second application on Monday and then powder coating silver on Monday night!

Also, the beam is going to have a second coat of black on Monday, just for good measure!

Brake calipers to follow shortly

I know..... BUt it'll make it last another 20 odd years.

Plus the rear bushes needed replacing, so while it was off may as well tart it up a bit...lol

Slippery slope. Looking good though. Two coatings and thats going to be some serious thickness, I hope you have masked certain areas or have good grinding, retapping tools :)

Graham loved me for getting the whole thing coated as he couldnt refit lots or parts without more preparation work

Yes Judith, I masked off the face's for the hubs, and inserted silicon bungs into the threaded holes to prevent the paint from getting in.

I need to sand away some of the paint ready for when I spray it again as I need to obtain a good earth so I get another even coat of powder.

The PVC rubber/ plastic will be interesting. It coats much thicker than powder or nylon. The thickness is measured in mm not micros, just need to find out what the temp and impact figures are and find away to get a better even finish on the part.

Hoping to get my calipers blasted this week and painted by the weekend.

Got a few other bits I want to take off the car and clean/ fix before it gets too cold.

I'm going to replace all the seals as they where pretty knackered. Will be making a start on the fronts on Friday after they've been stripped down.

Cracking shots Mark, good work. Look to be getting a superb finish, thats the beauty of doing it yourself, more effort is well worth it.

Shame the PVC didnt work, it sounds sexy having your corrado clad in PVC

Laser Mark - Do you offer shot blasting and powder coating as a service...I may need some parts doing in the future ?

Thanks, I'm able to offer a service on the shot blasting and powder coating.

But please be aware that it'll have to be done around my regular job so turn around will not be as fast as dedicated firms. On a plus side, you can guarantee that the upmost care will be taken, and you will only recieve the parts back when I'm 100% happy with them myself.

I'm also only able to offer 2 colours to powder, that being the black and the silver.

If your interested drop me a pm and we can work something out

Cheers

Mark

NIce work on the blasting and coating their Mark

Thanks very much :)

I can't take all the credit, I've had a lot of help from Dave16v in stripping down the calipers and gathering info on new seal kits, also my mate Andy who has been patient enough to help me strip the beam out the car along with the capliers.

I suppose I also have to acknowledge the help I've had from my boss with regards to the powder coating and the best ways to achive the best finish. lol

Did a bit of work on Thursday with some rollers at work, trying to find the best temperature balance, and work out per-bake temps to.

Ended up with some good results but not sure its any good for coating stuff on the car and the reasons are that with Nylon and powder coating, the paint chemically bonds with the matal producing a very tough durable finish. The PVC on the other hand doesn't bond chemically, its more of a mechanical bond as the paint wraps round the part and sticks to itself.

It looks good, (now I've figured out what to do) and its quite flexable, resisting the oddd hammer blow, but not convinced that it would be suitable as a coating. So I'm going to stick with powder. ( Trying to get the gaffer to buy some Nylon, but its waaaaaaaaaayyy to expensive!)

Thats good to know...cheers Mark. Personally I prefer powder coating in silver myself as you can see the parts better rather than in black. It will be for parts what you have done to yours already like front subframes, rear beam and front and rear brake calipers and carriers. If you could PM a quote that will be great just to give us some ideas on costings.
