swiftkid 1 Posted May 18, 2010 Im just wondering as i saw the back of some mk3 golf heater controls (the dial type) which look pretty much the same, if they will fit in a corrado as a direct replacement for the existing later dial type heater controls. Obviously the fascia will need to be swapped over, if possible, but they are a hell of alot easier and cheaper to get hold of then one for a corrado! Can anyone confirm either way? VR6 0 Posted May 18, 2010 Pretty sure they're quite different and would take a fair bit of work to fit properly/with full functionality.
swiftkid 1 Posted May 18, 2010 ahh nuts, im not modifying anything to fit. Just thought it would save me a lot of pennies if it was something easy like to swap the front over. These heater controls seem to be going for £50-85 and the only thing thats wrong with mine is the directional dial doesn't work. Doesn't bother me that much because i have it on screen all the time but i want to make sure the car is fully functioning so shelling out £85 is ridiculous! VR6 0 Posted May 18, 2010 Hey with enough time and money, you can achieve anything!
neuon2003 0 Posted May 18, 2010 and the only thing thats wrong with mine is the directional dial doesn't work You might not need a replacement set of controls. I had the same issue, due to a broken dial, and was able to fix it using some Q-Bond adhesive and the reinforcing powder (see pictures below). In my case the cause of the problem was a break in the track on the underside of the dial. It seems that when the cable gets stiff(er!), turning the dial causes the metal pin which runs in the track to pull through the track. Then, at some point when further using the dial, the metal pin exits the track through the break. Result is that the direction dial turns without effect. Used these instructions to get me started with taking the heater controls to pieces. Taking the direction dial off was quite easy: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/late_heater_control_repair.html Used this to repair and reinforce the dial, bought off Ebay: http://www.qbond.net. I think it is absolutely fantastic. Tip: To help the powder bond to the underlying plastic, put down some adhesive first, then put the powder on.
