Vr6 engine bay tidy up...

Hi guys, just bought a VR yesterday and tbh the bay just looks soo damn messy, so have you guys got any tips as to what i can do on a budget to tidy up the way it looks? Im not after any specific look here, just want it to be neater without the wires looking such a mess etc.

 

Also, how do u remove the stupid plastic cover around the inlet?

Twilight violet? :D

 

Dark burgundy pearl buddy, pics dont show it off at plus it was filthy... my mk3 daily that i had for a while was twilight violet, lovely colour too!

I'm new to Corrado's, not even got mine yet, so can't offer any specific advice, but giving it a good clean and then treating some of the black plastic/rubber bits to some tyre shine would certainly make it look better.

Both, i want to polish everything... Its probably easy but the cars at the garage right now so cant take a look... can u tell im planning an all out detailing assault on it soon? :lol:

Its a leads out job.......hope you have a removal tool and patience......the vr6 dohc has 2 screws at the back under the rear leads holder which also has screws, all torq i think......the front leads guide just clips onto 2 screws on the inlet as far as i remember.......i'm sure someone who knows better will correct me though :lol:

Right, im calling the garage tommorow and asking them to take it off for me lol.

 

I just realised that my bays missing the small black plastic cover that goes over the fans/rad so ive put up a 'wanted' for one of those. I cant think of much else, need to sort out the air filter area, its just a big, dirty empty space at the mo lol.

 

What size is the VR6 Maf guys? 3" right?

You're also missing the cover above the coilpack (right hand side of the head) so that'll help too.

Abdul if your serious about taking the car to a garage so some guys can take the VR6-D0HC cover off for you then you have bought the wrong car, these cars demand maintenance and if you cant even do that you should have bought a kia.

 

oh yeh i have the plastic radiator cover if you still want it £10 posted, or i can fit it for an extra £30.

As already stated, this really is so easy. Remove all the plug leads ( you will need a plug lead removal tool to avoid damage to the leads) The rear plug lead guide is held on by two screws. Remove them and lift the guide off. The large central section has two screws at the back, remove them and then it will lift off. To remove the front plug lead guide, simply slide it to the right and it will lift off. You are missing a plastic cover which should be to the right of the large central section. Again it is simply held on by screws. A polished manifold does look well, but having been there I can tell you that you will be polishing it for ever to keep it looking good. What about colour coding the manifold as below. The manifold does not get hot enough to damage the paint and it is low maintainence. Getting it off, preparing it and painting it will probably be away beyond your capabilities bearing in mind your problems with the engine plastics, but it is well worth it for the effort involved. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Also missing a battery cover which helps tidy things up, still available from the dealers :wink: nice to see you got one in the end!

Easy chaps, his car is already at the garage, its not like he's booking it in to get the plastics taken off....

you're a bunch of funny guys tho :lol:

 

Abdul I think you should keep the spark leads plastic, it holds them in and they'll look messy otherwise as you'd probably have to ziptie them together or something equally cack! But get shot of that dohc cover sharpish.

Hey fool, if u read my post you'll see its already at the garage. Why get my hands dirty doin somethng i can get them to do for free?

 

You can stuff ur rad cover.

Fine fine im sorry. Just didnt know if u were trying to insult my inteligence or having a laugh. My bad.

On a serious note though, the crackpipe split on my way home from collecting it on thursday so i had it towed to a garage that im very friendly with yesterday hence saying ill get them to take the covers off and what not. Its free right!

Hmm never know what to think about de cats as dont you have to have it refitted for the MOT? cound'nt be bothered with the hassle for the sake of a few ponys. :?

And usually it makes them louder id be tempted with a sports cat, high flow and you can keep it installed come mot time

mine is de-cat and i hate how noisy it is. going to get a sports cat fitted. oh on that note ... where would i get a sports cat from for my g60 milltek sytem?

I dunno because i use the same garage for my mot/service/exhausts as they're an exhaust and engine tuning specialist so they can just whip it off themselves when the time comes. Wont be for another year anyway as the mot's going to be renewed on monday....

 

Does it actually improve the power at all? Hmm im not sure i want me exhaust any louder, its really really quiet as it is...
