renson 0 Posted November 18, 2010 Right so i have a 2ltr 16v 9a and the other month the alternator packed up. I replaced the alternator and all was fine until the other day. The Battery light came on and the battery completely died so i also replaced the battery. This seemed to cure the problem until a few days ago when i started getting an intermittant charging issue. Sometimes the battery was getting 14.4 v then whan i stopped the car and started it agian it would not charge. I Assumed it was a faulty alternator so i got another new replacement but i am still seeing the issue where it will then won't charge. Help i'm totally confused as to what it can be! I have checked as far as i am aware all the earths and they seem ok, i can't think what it could be. Also i noticed that when i use the alarm one side if the cars indicators have stopped flashing. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 18, 2010 /\ Yeah the blue wire needs a load at the end of it or the alternator won't charge. If you're seeing 14.4V, that means the Alt is working hard to recharge the battery. A few mins after cranking, the batt voltage should be 13.5 - 13.8. If it's hanging around 14 or higher permanently, it's the battery. Could be a bad earth strap? Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

renson 0 Posted January 18, 2011 ok so i'm not having the best of luck with my car lol. still haven't sorted the charging problem but i know that it is the blue wire because if i connect the + on the battery to where the blue 'excite' wire connects to the alternator it charges everytime. i have checked all of the obvious connections and can't see anything wrong. does anyone have a staring/charging wiring diagram for the 9a? Please help she's in a bad way. someone set fire to her on friday night so now she has no interior and i'm waiting till thursday to get the doner car.
