belfastfumanchu 0 Posted February 19, 2004 I had a Golf that done the same thing.....and one day the car stopped completley on the way to work. If i can remember rightly it was to do with the distributor.....the spark wasn't getting to the plugs The metal pin thing part in the cap was broke off - hence no spark
Bolster 0 Posted February 19, 2004 Try searching for 'VR6 AND stalls' - might help.
Ice White Socks 0 Posted February 19, 2004 I had the same problem myself. I just cleaned out the throttle body and the ISV with carb cleaner and its A ok. Not sure about the science but its either due to sticky ISV, or a build up of sh!te around the throttle flap that prevents it closing properly. Mine is an 83k VR6 and it certainly a job that needed doing. Never stalled again after. Isn't it scary how heavy the steering gets when you lose the power

Ice White Socks 0 Posted February 19, 2004 To be honest it might be worth getting it into a VW specialist to get it done- Its only half an hours work tops and no parts- it would only be £25 odd. I can explain how I did it though if you want. You will need the tool to remove/ refit the plug leads- Most VR owners appear to have had one with the car- I bought a fancy metal one for £20. You will also need a splined Socket to remove the plastic engine cover- The one I used was very kindly loaned to me by James (CorradoVR6n-o-s) :D
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 19, 2004 Yeah it's pretty much been covered by Ice White Socks. You'll need an 8mm spline tool, which Halfords sell. You'll need that for removing the plastic cable tidies to get at the idle valve. Check also that the HT leads are pushed firmly onto the plugs. You can use a thin screwdriver to press on the metal part of the lead. It's quite common for them to be half-on/half-off as the tool is very vague when it comes to putting them back in. You need to hear a click when pressing the leads on. If you don't, it's not on properly. K
