jimbobbalooba 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Well I don't know about you lot but I've got fed up with not being able to get carpet sets for the Corrado.... So I'm having them made. They'll look something like this... (From Golf 2) Available in various colours and in either Wool or Nylon (both latex backed). They are stitched to shape but not heat/pressure moulded, although as they are latex backed they can be heated with a gun, pushed into shaped and weighted for the same end result to a degree. These are really good quality carpets, made in the UK by a trim specialist not a company in China (which I considered at first). The material was just awful and I if didn't want it then I guessed that nobody else would either. I haven't ordered yet as I am currently making the templates for them but want to order a minimum of ten sets (Don't all have to be the same colour or material). Costs will be roughly; Nylon - £220 and Wool at £330 (prices to be confirmed but this includes VAT but not delivery). If you're interested, let me know what type and colour you would like and I'll sort something out. I'll need contact details and payment up front (when the order is confirmed) as I don't have a spare £3k lying around to pay them up front with myself :? I'll take some pictures of the samples and get them up here asap. FYI - The sets do not include the boot carpet but I can order these seperately, not sure about cost yet. Jim 2 Posted January 26, 2011 Appreciate your efforts in sorting this but have to be brutally honest - I can't see many people coughing up £220 or £330 for a set of carpets, now matter how good the quality!

You may be right but I'm buying some and I can't imagine I'm the only one? Seeing as I can't get them anywhere else I don't really see much of an option either. I'm hoping that when I have a firm set of orders that I may be able to get the price down anyway but don't really want to promise that too early on. best to under promise and over deliver and all that. The nylon ones are pretty good anyway and at £220 I think it's a bargain, especially when you can pay £60 just for a set of decent mats alone! Not everyone's cup of tea but the offer is out there :) Jim

Seriously though, I know they are not cheap but I've been looking around for a while. Golf II carpet sets start at around £160 and dozens of people make then in not amazing quality from what I can see at that price. In better materials I'm getting them specially made up for roughly £183 (plus VAT)... and if you want wool carpets then you pay more?? If anyone IS INTERESTED, let me know. If you can't afford it then I'm sorry, they wouldn't make them for £40. Jim
jimbobbalooba 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Bump, any interest?
jimbobbalooba 0 Posted January 27, 2011 Got the samples in now and i'm pretty impressed actually. :notworthy: More pics available on http://corrblimey.com/Blog/?p=436 if you're interested. PM for any specific requests. Jim
Marshall936 0 Posted February 1, 2011 Sorry was really interested but £220 is far too rich for me.
jimbobbalooba 0 Posted February 2, 2011 Sorry was really interested but £220 is far too rich for me. What kind of price do you think I should ask for then? I don't want to insult them but if nobody orders then they'll loose out anyway?? Jim
vr6storm 0 Posted February 2, 2011 I think peeps here are getting confused and thinking its overmats you are offering, now I'm maybe wrong here but I take it,that its replacement complete interior carpet shaped for the Corrado? if so then that seems to be quite a decent price, well going by how much it would cost for me to get my 993 re-carpetted

I wonder if that's it?? I personally think it's an ok price. - Thanks Rodders Just to confirm this is a complete interior carpet set, not just mats!! So that is everything beneath the mats. For example.... I hope that clears things up.
KIPVW 0 Posted February 2, 2011 I think some folk just dont fancy paying out for something that in essence doesn't do anything! i think the price is quite reasonable actually for what you are getting. Folk are happy to spent money on other buts they dont really need ie tuning items that maybe dont have a massive effect on performance where as others like myself would prefer to bu all new stuff like this when it comes up. I just dont need any for mine otherwise i most certainly would place an order :?
Jim 2 Posted February 2, 2011 Ah yes... my mistake. For a full set of carpets that's pretty reasonable! My apologies for the confusion!
steveo29 0 Posted February 4, 2011 you mention heat gunning it to shape , have you tried this ? im no carpet whizzo but most carpets will melt /ruin the fibres if its heated enough to shape it
jimbobbalooba 0 Posted February 4, 2011 you mention heat gunning it to shape , have you tried this ? im no carpet whizzo but most carpets will melt /ruin the fibres if its heated enough to shape it Lol, yeah you don't heat them up that much!! It's not like vacuum moulding where you heat them and gravity pulls them into shape, you simply warm the carpet up (could actually be done in the sun if we had any) and then pushed into place. The heat just softens the backing. Once it's pushed into place then as it cools it takes the shape properly. it is a bit of an art and I've yet to do it actually :? as I haven't got an order in yet for the carpet. When I do it though I'm gonna do a video guide and pop it on my site. Jim
steveo29 0 Posted February 4, 2011 so how will gentle warming form it in corners etc , i can imagine it would just crinkle up ?
jimbobbalooba 0 Posted February 4, 2011 so how will gentle warming form it in corners etc , i can imagine it would just crinkle up ? That's what makes these carpets the price they are. The large shapes in the carpet are cut and stitched as a Corrado Mould has not been made. The smaller shapes, for example from front footwell over to rear footwell can be achieved through the heating as described previously. Like I said, I'll do a video and post it up once it's done. big ben 10 Posted February 4, 2011 i think its an ok price.. but most corrado owners have so many things on the "to do" list you would have to have them all done before buying carpet. If my bodywork was perfect, seats were mint etc i would look at this, but too many other things needed for me first

If my bodywork was perfect, seats were mint etc i would look at this, but too many other things needed for me first Yeah it's the case for a lot of the members BB, but all I need is an order for 10 sets to get them made up at that price and I'm one of them. With 16,000 members I'm hoping that others like me have Corrados perhaps as second cars or projects. Believe me, I'm doing the engine at the moment and with the forged parts, rebore, charger etc it's costing thousands and thousands!! Just hope the wife doesn't find out :norty: Cheers Jim
big ben 10 Posted February 4, 2011 i wonder how many of the 16,000 members can throw thousands and thousands at a corrado though at the moment, i know i sure cant

Should be 400 Hp by the time Stealth have finished with it, hopefully with a stage 2 turbo kit! The rest of the car hasn't been too bad so far. big ben 10 Posted February 4, 2011 mine already has all the stuff on it, just needs paint and lots of petrol as it likes drinking it :pale:
davidwort 0 Posted February 4, 2011 Ah yes... my mistake. For a full set of carpets that's pretty reasonable! My apologies for the confusion! I made the same assumption! take it all back, 2-300 quid for a full tailored quality carpet is pretty good :) considering the money people spend on engines, suspension and bodywork I reckon it's a good investment. You might want to consider boot carpets too, the 3 pieces, base and sides.

You might want to consider boot carpets too, the 3 pieces, base and sides. No worries. Looked at doing the boot carpets, floor is fine but the side pieces are so moulded that they would really need to go on a press to be made. There doesn't seem to be much wear and tear on these anyway so not sure how people would need them... although it would be nice to do the entire lot, granted. ;) Jim

I was hoping it would be around £100-£140. At the moment i'm not in a position to spend more than that on the carpet, so i'll just have to wait or buy 2nd hand. :)
