Timo. 0 Posted February 22, 2004 Been having lumpy acceleration, near stalling all the time whether car is hot or cold. Read so many threads on it. Decided must be ISV (hopefully). So I got some Wynns Carb cleaner and reading the instructions it says to remove air filter and spray in short bursts (to clean throttle body etc, thought I try that first) whilst the engine is idling. I'm thinking spraying this into the MAF would not be a good idea, so I decided to take that off. Ofcourse the engine dies when you do that. How the smeg am I supposed to do it then?? without the engine cutting out. Will it start and run if I take the MAF sensor of first. Thought about using the rocker cover breather hose and spraying it in there to bypass the MAF. Would it be alright to try that. Any help would be great. cheers Simon
steveo29 0 Posted February 22, 2004 you can disassemble it all...give it a good squirt and re fit everything...it'l be a little hard to start but it'l go might be worth trying some inj cleaner to
Ice White Socks 0 Posted February 22, 2004 l wouldn't mind knowing the answer to that as well. I cleaned ISV and throttle body a few weeks ago and it stopped a stalling problem I was having, but I never got time to use the cleaner with the engine running. I suspect the carb cleaner won't do the MAF any harm at all , But I will wait to see if someone more technically minded than me agrees with this before I actually go and do it!! Timo. 0 Posted February 22, 2004 you can disassemble it all...give it a good squirt and re fit everything...it'l be a little hard to start but it'l go might be worth trying some inj cleaner to I'll give that a shot. Just cleaned connections on HT leads and spark plug and took car for a spin. acceleration was fine, but a few days must pass before I'm convinced that that has sorted it. Still gone clean the thottle body though. Dont think I'l spray the MAF. cheers Simon
Timo. 0 Posted February 22, 2004    I have a grin on my face from ear to ear. I now know why I bought a vr6. Blimey they are fast when they are on song. Took all the air intake and stuff apart, cleaned, sprayed throttle body put back together and ran for a we while. I also managed to spray the carb. cleaner whilst the engine was running. I used the crank case breather pipe. Worked a treat. Job done, i am well happy now cheers for the help Simon
