have i broken it

Recommended Posts

after taking apart my clocks yesterday and putting different coloured film on the lcd display the petrol gauge has stopped working i think. i cant start the car as the head is off at the moment and petrol is coming out of some pipes up front when i turn it on. Has my petrol gauge stop working because of the the break in the gueling sytem or have i messed up the gauge? I cant remember if they moved when i had the head of before i removed them but do know they worked when the engine was in complete. thanks Bobby :D

Hmmm it's going to be pretty difficult to tell unless you can block the fuel lines and leave the electrics on for a while to see if the guage is working - they usually take a while to raise up to the full amount - how much fuel is in there?

How easy was it to change the LCD display colours and what film did you use? Do the needles have to come off the clocks and the little flat head screws have to be removed to get the faces off?

wasn't difficult at all i did it on my mk2 golf years back so i knew how and what was best to use the film i used was from maplins and is a dark shade of purple, although lighter colours do tend to allow more light through, red is easy and looks effective, blue can be done but isn't too good unless u switch to blue leds rather than just a film change. oh yeah and theres a full tank of petrol in the car and yes three small screws and needles need to be removed to access the mettal lips that hold the lcd unit in place. looks like i'll be taking them out to have another fiddle and drop some newer style needles and dials in.

does the rest of the MFA work as it gets the earth from the strap that goes from the bulkhead to the rear of the head behind the oil breather pipe that goes into the rocker cover if the mfa isn't getting a proper earth then it wont work properly this may be the cause of the problem or maybe not!

you dont need to take the black face of the gauges to get at the lcd screens on a corrado.

if you have done this, its possible you knocked the gauge inside.. temperature gauges usually stop working and are fixed in the same way that you would have to fix yours.
