mic_VR 3 Posted May 15, 2011 Morning all. Not sure if the mods will just close this thread off but I'm trying to gauge whether its worth me attempting to sell my car or not. Using the new classified section is great and all but its hard to judge potential interest as no one seems to comment or ask queries. Unfortunately circumstances over the past few months mean I've been debating selling the C, even to the point where I put an ad up before but had zero interest. Bit of background on the car - 94 VR6 now with a 2.8 24v conversion done by DG, car has done 146k miles but engine has done roughly 35k and is absolutely perfect. Mechanically the car is spot on but bodywork wise it needs some work on a rear arch and has a number of scratches that need tidying up. Better spec in my signature and full run down of issues in my members thread (which i'll link when I'm on a proper computer rather than my phone) I put it up at £5k ono before which would now appear to be a little high but I didn't have a single enquiry, having spoken to various people it probably needs £800 spent on the body which I don't have the time to sort so I'm thinking an offer just over £4k is more realistic..... but would that actually be of interest to anyone? Given the fact it would cost someone more than that to get the conversion done I think this is fair. I also really love this car and will be genuinely upset to see it go (but needs must) so I'm not going to let it go for pennies so if potentially interested parties would like to post in here and I'll put up a proper ad if there is any interest. Also if I'm being unrealistic on price, peoples opinions are welcome as always. Conversely, if there is no interest I won't bother and I'll have to come up with a new plan of action to store it somewhere. Cheers, Mic.
dukest 0 Posted May 15, 2011 i dont see what the harm is in having an ad up anywhere Mic, especially here where there's no upkeep required for it. not much sells quickly these days, let alone specialised spec- cars but if you dont advertise it it definitely wont sell. deals do happen though- eg. Karls latest purchase. i think the concept of "interest" that you get with lots of people commenting on old-style forum ads isnt always of that much value in the end, you're still just waiting for your buyer, but with the old ads you just get this ongoing illusion that they're always just around the corner. might be over-simplifying it a bit but thats my take on it. C5 OEM 0 Posted May 15, 2011 A 24v storm was for sale on ebay over the last 6 months and that could of been had for 3k, sadly the car market has been hit big and corrados even more so and having owned a converted mk2 gti 20v i know too well that converted cars do struggle to sell. For me if you wanted it to sell you`d have to put the price so low just to tempt people to take the gamble. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?54466-1994-Vw-Corrado-24v-v6-%A32800-ono-on-fleabay!&highlight=24v
coullstar 0 Posted May 15, 2011 I sold mine for about £4k and it needed a few hundred for paint. If you dont need a quick sale put it up for that and wait. I really miss mine TBH, its such a great all round package.

mic_VR 3 Posted May 15, 2011 Yeah I hear what you're saying guys, I appreciate the market isn't great at the moment. Coullstar - I'll really miss it if it goes, I love the car but I've got no where to keep it and I'm struggling to find somewhere suitable to store it. I'm lucky I don't need the money so I'd like it to go to an enthusiast, if it can.
mrginge 0 Posted May 17, 2011 Like you i didnt need the money but i also didnt need 3 cars haha. I put my Mk2 Golf 16v up for 2k in October last year and it sold in April for £1900. The first person to view it! I think Ultimate Dubs woke up a few people that were hibernating over winter.
lesarcsneil 0 Posted May 17, 2011 If you're after a good bodyshop in Cambridge you can do a lot worse than John Sole in Bassingbourn. It's the garage on the High Street with the bodyshop out back. Glenn is now in charge of quotes etc. Mention 'Neil - the bloke from CSR with the Corrado' and they may do you a deal. They're reasonably priced and you're welcome to meet up to have a look at the work they've done on my car recently. Neil
boost monkey 0 Posted May 17, 2011 perhaps if you offered some of your turtle necks, it would sweeten the deal?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 17, 2011 Let me have your techtonics exhaust before you sell it mate :D
vwchick 0 Posted May 17, 2011 I've just put mine for sale on here and had no interest which is a real shame. Hubby talking about ebay now but i will put a reserve on it as not letting it go for silly money. Rather keep it til i find a good home. Its not a good time to sell, me thinks Vwchick
mic_VR 3 Posted May 17, 2011 Let me have your techtonics exhaust before you sell it mate :D Er...... don't you already have one? LOL. Mr Monkey, I'm not going to cheapen the deal by throwing in my beloved turtkenecks, I believe the car will have people interested as it is without any gimmicks! Lesarcsneil - cheers for the heads up, I'd definitely be interested in seeing the work done. I'm based in the city centre but I know CSR so maybe a lunchtime meet up is in order? Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 17, 2011 Yes mate, but I swapped mine with Leon's if you remember? The single silencer one, might be too noisy in n'asp form, but we'll see :D I'm surprised at the lack of interest, but that could just be on here? Out in the big wide world Corrados are very much still in favour. Asking a couple of staff at my local Halfords to get a tool out of the cabinet for me resulted in a very enthusiastic discussion about Corrado VR6s. They couldn't praise them enough. So I would swerve the forum and sell it via the other channels, pistonheads, Autotrader, local paper, etc and you might get some bites. Just sell it as a Corrado VR6. Don't mention it has a different engine. It's still a VR6 engine regardless of how many valves it has. If the buyer queries it, just say "Yeah, it's the newer version of the VR6". No different to buying a newer version of the same Dishwasher is it, really?
mic_VR 3 Posted May 17, 2011 So you're worried about being branded a boy racer with your boom boom exhaust eh? Yeah I hear what you're saying, the forum is a very small audience to sell to but if it goes I'm like to think it's gone to an enthusiast.... plus I guess only putting it on here is part of me not really wanting it to go at all. I should really try harder.... I guess it is still just a VR6, maybe I should get you to write a more 'creative' ad for it? :D ---------- Post added at 01:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:36 PM ---------- I've just put mine for sale on here and had no interest which is a real shame. Definitely not a good time to sell, but no way I'd put it on ebay without a reserve as like you I don't want it to go for peanuts.
tony_ack 0 Posted May 17, 2011 Get the body sorted - people who appreciate the value of the conversion may be willing to pay what you want, but there aren't many of those about who are looking to buy. Bodywork issues are very visible and tend to stick in a buyer's mind, whereas they're less likely to worry about mechanical niggles. To a buyer, £5000 may be fairly reasonable for your spec of car with good bodywork, £4200 for your spec of car with a rusty arch is not. Maybe it's not quite as applicable in your case, as it's more of a specialist car with the conversion, but to be honest I wouldn't just rely on enthusiast forums to sell your car - try the local classifieds too. Chances are that there won't be any more for sale other than yours in the local paper, and people who may like the Corrado but not know much about them may not realise how much of a bargain they are until they see one for sale. ---------- Post added at 03:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:48 PM ---------- oh yeah, that's pretty much what Kev said! And there there's the sheer honestly element. If a seller is willing to misrepresent something as core as the engine, how could I trust anything else he says about the car? Certainly if I agreed to travel 250 miles to Cambridge and the car was completely misrepresented I'd be pretty unhappy with young Mic. I agree that if selling to put it on Pistonheads as a 24v as there's a much wider audience of enthusiasts out there who this might appeal to.

mic_VR 3 Posted May 18, 2011 I'm upset at the lack of seventies clothing but wish you luck in your sellage. Fine, I'll throw in one roll neck and some flares.... but that's my final offer! John - don't worry I haven't got it in me to lie about the cars condition. Plus, if I did I'd have the foresight to not keep putting posts on the forum mentioning the bodywork. I just assume everything Mr Wire says is a joke these days. The other day he secretly told me he doesn't really like the corrado anyway..... :D
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) I bought mine on gumtree mate. I think most new C owners are blissfully unaware of the Corrado forum until they encounter a problem and seek advice.. and then they may just nip to a garage anyway. I'd post it about on various classifieds. It couldn't hurt.... Also, if i had a few grand i'd offer you 4 for it. It look lovely next to my old g60. Maybe if i win the lottery ---------- Post added at 04:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:03 PM ---------- although the polo neck may turn me off purchasing...
