neuon2003 0 Posted June 1, 2011 Just had a quote from a respected local family firm for fitting a new Sekurit screen. £250+ VAT for an encapsulated one, or £200 for separate trim. With the encapsulated one, the hard trims are pre-fastened like a goal post. From a fitting point of view, the firm has no preference. Can anybody shed any perspective on this? Is one type preferred, bearing in mind the car is in original condition and I want it to stay that way? Thanks.
neuon2003 0 Posted June 1, 2011 Hi Paul, Many thanks for the feedback. I tend to agree on the encapsulated type as it seems that many of the windscreen fitting issues may be due to the trim and seal arrangements. FYI, the Broad Lane Company has gone (Auto Windscreens); now puts you through to a call centre in Leeds to a firm who bought the name but operate on a mobile basis only. Lots of redundancies and Simon was one of them. It seems that Simon *may* be working for a distribution company opposite the old Broad Lane site, but looks like he no longer does windscreens. From asking around, it seems that there are two possible alternatives in Sheffield for quality work: Marvin, who owns Yorkshire Windscreens on 07961 028 383/0114 286 9083, or Bee Windscreens (http://www.beewindscreens.co.uk). Have spoken to them both and they are both happy to do the work provided I bring the car to their works. They will not do a Corrado screen as a mobile fit (which I regard as a good thing). Marvin's problem is time: he does a lot of garage work (e.g. Gilders) and could do a Corrado if it could be left with him over a weekend, because of the time it takes. He has done a few before so is aware of their characteristics. He is also a national award winning fitter, apparently. Seems like a really sound bloke. The quote above was from Bee's. Well established family firm with a very good reputation in the trade. Unphased about doing a Corrado ("tricky but not an issue"). Going to see them next week to talk about having one screen re-fitted (to get rid of the whistling) and a new one in the other car after the glass-out respray. Will let you know how I get on. Cheers, Andrew
tim20vt 0 Posted June 1, 2011 i can tell you its very hard to fit a genuine vw windscreen as i just have, and the trims for the side top and surround are close to £130 alone if you have to provide those, the side trims just go on the windcreen no problem its those that are dear at £50 each its getting the outer one in i struggled with after the screen is in,but it does fit 100% perfect now, you can buy 6 spacers as a part from vw to put the screen in the right place, cant tell you if one looks better than the other as i havn,t seen the encapsulated one. cheers
