Hmm, yes you may well be right there..! Looks like the bottom of the A pillar is more or less in contact with the lower section of the wing there then, so both pieces rust together?

Yeah the lower bit of the wings bolts upwards into the sill there, creates a bit of a dirt trap, one wing of mine was ok, the other was rusty and by the time i'd poked it a bit there was hole in it and the bottom edge needs a piece welded on.

I spoke with Annavr6 on the forum, she can order them from vw classic parts in Germany, she works at vw heritage and can save you most of the postage costs. Took about 6weeks though

I might have got the wrong end of the stick I was looking at a post regarding a replacement sill
