HodgyVR6 0 Posted March 11, 2004 On the way home from work tonight the water temp went really high over 110 and the warning light started flashing. Pulled over and popped the bonnet but nothing seemed extra hot. The oil temperature was also hotter than usual. Over the past few weeks the car had been running cooler than usual (around 75 water average & 80 oil temp) now all of a sudden it's overheating. Had a new Lambda sensor fitted yesterday could this be associated? Any ideas what the prob could be?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 11, 2004 The engine will run leaner with a new lambda probe, which will make the engine run slightly hotter, but not to the extent you've described!. Were you sitting in traffic when it climbed to 110 or just driving along normally? Did the mechanics that did the lambda probe do anything to the coolant system aswell? HodgyVR6 0 Posted March 11, 2004 just driving along! the drive from work to home is only 15 mins so the engine rarely gets that hot anyway. As far as I know they didn't touch anything to do with the coolant system all they changed was the Lambda sensor. Any ideas? [/i]
Rossco 0 Posted March 12, 2004 Could be the thermoswitch for your fan, if this is buggered then your fan wont come on, thus serious cooking. Might not be your problem seeing as your constantly moving it should be cool but this happened to mine and it turned out to be one of these gimpy switches
stevemac 0 Posted March 12, 2004 Faulty thermostat ?? When your engine gets really hot, as you've described, does the radiator get hot or does it stay fairly cool ?? If the radiator stays fairly cool to touch then you have a faulty thermostat. Thermostat may have originally stuck open - cool running. Now it may have stuck shut, stopping the circulation through the radiator, hence hot running.
HodgyVR6 0 Posted March 12, 2004 Cheers for the responses guys. Took it to a local mechanic who's dealt with a number of corrado's this morning and as you said, he seems to think it is the thermostat so getting it changed. Hopefully this will solve the problem! Ice White Socks 0 Posted March 12, 2004 IBudget for a new Thermostat housing as well- They rarely come off without cracking :( . Same happened to my VR but can't find the old invoice to tell you how much it was Mike
stu 0 Posted March 13, 2004 About £20 IIRC for the housing. And you might as well fit new seals, just to be sure.
