Honeymoon pics (better than it sounds)

Recommended Posts

Finally got round to doing this after 6 months.

I got married in on May 14th, and the honeymoon consisted of a 3 week, 5000km jaunt around France, Italy and a bit of Switzerland in the trusty old steed.

I think I got more pictures of the car than of the new Mrs, so thought I'd share a few.

Before we left, I replaced the wheel bearings, CV joints, discs and pads, dizzy cap, HT leads, spark plugs, oil and filter, and wipers. Since I've had the car, I've changed the cam belt, alternater, oil pump, power steering pump, water pump, G-Werks charger rebuild, H&R 25mm lower springs, Porsche D90 which were bought silver and I refurbed them myself (not perfect but still look pretty good), changed the plates and done a few tedius jobs like the door handle repair. Just taken delivery of a Jetex cat-back system which I fitted 2 days ago and and pleasantly surprised by.

On the trip, we were consistently cruising at 100 mph, and managed to get her up to 130 on a very long French road. Despite that abuse, and that we did twisty roads like the San Bernadino Pass, the only time we had to stop was for a loose hub adaptor. Ran very hot a few times but the weather was reaching 30 degrees regularly so to be expected. A test of stamina passed with flying colours. I love my corrado. :-)

I think they did the Stelvio Pass on Top Gear but that road closes at certain parts of the year. I can't imagine it's that much better than some of the roads we stumbled across though.

That looks like a great adventure especially in the c, i would love to do something like this in my storm, but for be to be confident in the car, alot more money would be needed in replacment parts to make her super reliable enough for that mileage/abuse!

That was my view too. I did replace a lot of parts in preparation but it was mostly service items anyway, and as I don't have a lot of history for the car, that money also bought me peace of mind.

Highlights of the trip for me (probably different to the other halfs) were:

Driving the windy roads, and heading towards hairpins with all 4 tyres chirping away,

Driving the Monaco GP circuit 2 days after the race,

Going to the Ferrari museum at Maranello,

Visiting Tamburello corner at Imola to pay my respects to the great man,

Visiting the Dijon race circuit, venue to one of F1s all time greatest battles,

and drinking my own body weight in beer every 3 days.

I would highly recommend all of the above, but make sure you have enough fuel money as you will go through an amazing amount.

We also walked the Monaco circuit the day after the race and found a large section of Massa's side pod from where he hit the wall in the tunnel. See photo.
