carrots 1 Posted January 11, 2012 hi my 1990 16v has got a click click sound from os front.its had wishbones, balljoints,cv joints, track rods and tie rods, strut tops, drop links.it seem to happen if i go over a little bump or when braking.i was wondering if the nut thing with the slits in wants doing up in the strut top mount.it seems to be getting worse, the new parts where fitted over 12 months ago now.any ideas

corrado wannabe 12 Posted January 11, 2012 Brake pads or caliper maybe?
Critical_Mass 10 Posted January 11, 2012 I get a loud click when braking, doesnt happen everytime. I thought it was the rear brake carriers, but checked the bolts and they were tight. Only does it occasionally. Cant seem to work out what it is - will be interested to know where this thread goes :-)
elliott 10 Posted January 11, 2012 Just the one click when braking? My old estate does it, it's just the pads moving in the calipers, I ended up welding a little blob on the pads and then buffing them to fit.
carrots 1 Posted January 11, 2012 it clicks even if i dont press the brakes so i dont think its that.its something to do with the suspension i think thats why i thought about the round nut with slits thats on the strut top.it started off with 1 click but is worse now. Nick 17 10 Posted January 18, 2012 My car makes some clicking noise when deccelerating using the engine when the brakes are applied the noise stops :S Front right wheel....im thinking maybe something is lose around callipers discs etc any ideas on this? Critical_Mass 10 Posted January 18, 2012 If it stops when you apply brakes implies the brakes are the issue. Possibly the pad moving?
seanl82 23 Posted January 18, 2012 Its not just a weight hitting your caliper is it? I had that, chimps at pro tyre put the weights right in line with em. Luckily I found the cause pretty sharpish and they sorted it.
carrots 1 Posted January 18, 2012 na dont think its a weight.its something to do with the shocker moving up and down

Sounds like you could've lost one of the caliper bolts.
Critical_Mass 10 Posted January 18, 2012 If thats the case, get the wheel off and check asap. Had this happen to me on the rear, the bolt must have come loose and eventually fell out whilst driving when i went to brake it made an awful noise and then the caliper got pulled round with the wheel, knackered the splash guard but more importantly tore the brake pipe. Seriously get the wheels off and check the bolts
carrots 1 Posted January 19, 2012 deff not that,i still think it might be that nut with the slits in it that sits inside the bearing on strut top.i will tighten it down a bit more at weekend or in week when i am off work
