Ridiculous insurance after a claim.. Who to try..

Recommended Posts

I'm just about to renew my insurance for the Jetta. It costs me more to insure the J TPFT than the C fully comp, which is just ridiculous. The answer I was given when I asked why this is the case? ...because its my daily, therefore I care about it less, therefore I'm more likely to crash it! Funnily enough, this didn't provoke a particularly calm response from me. Amazing as it may seem, I don't want to be in an accident in any car!

I didn't put enough money in my dedicated Direct Debit paying account to cover my insurance installment last week.

My responsibility, my fault. So I called Chris Knott to apologise and pay them by card.

I was informed with a smile that the credit providers stuck me with a £25 charge!

"A late fee!" I spluttered. "A late fee. What is this? A library!?" Not Chris Knott's charge granted but they employed this company. The nice ladies response didn't help "It's more expensive than a late book" she said with a giggle. No sh1t..

It's just a joke.

I've decided to go down the Classic route and buy a cheap daily driver. Looking at a MK2 GTD.

Thing is people are asking around £1000 for that?! Baffling thing is i went on a comparisin site which still had a quote from back in July last year for a brand new TT 3.2 Quattro - £1200. What the actual **** is going on here?

Get the classic car insurance and disconnect the speedo.

Why the hell not? You would have to make sure there was no come back though and run a few hundred miles on the clock re-connecting it from time to time.

With insurance companies charging whatever they like these days it's no wonder people are forced to do stuff like this. Still, we shouldn't have to...

A driver instructor was telling me that Provisional licence s have dropped at the end of last year by 20 % due to the cost of driving. One of his pupils passes his test bought a corsa for £800 and was going to cost him £4000 to insure it and that was with a black box inside the car, that monitors your

This is all sent to the insurance company which reflects in your premuim.

What you need is a farm policy insurance that your dad owns and shove your car under that policy as well, that way the premium will hardly be affected due to the price of the other machinery !

Maybe not a great help, but worth trying. But before I start - like Scotties - I'm old(er) at 48. I've just insured the Touran and the C for £457 fully comp with Privilege. They are giving 10% of on additional cars insured. Was quoted £623 by Admiral for a virtually identical policy. They took £80 of that just because I asked and was a repeat customer, but I jumped ship as privilege still cheaper. Can see me jumping again next year.

Worth looking at multicar policies if you are thinking of getting a daily to run alongside.

Also try moneysavingexpert.com - it's got a thing where you select your job, then it works out which jobs have similar descriptions and what the diffeence in premium is for these. I've just changed my title, worth about 5%.

Hope this helps

Update on this..

Ended up going the classic route with. 4,500 mile policy. If/when I know I'm going to go up to that allowance I'll probably look at getting a 2nd car. I'm currently insured on my parents cars which they never use so I do have a 2nd car to drive around if need be.

Went with Footman James in the end, £409 all on with a £5,000 agreed valuation. Peter Best was this price but with a 5,000 miles limited policy. I went with Footman James in the end as I felt their level of service was slightly better. Originally the FJ quote was around the £500 mark but I received a very good follow up phone call which matched Peter Bests price of £409, then a very comprehensive paper quote explaining the policy came through a few days later - Peter Best couldn't beat their original quote (and didn't even try to be honest) and no paper quote from them. I feel finding a company with good customer service is worth it's weight in gold.. Don't get me wrong, Peter Best was very good but Footman James just clinched it this time.
