stormseeker 0 Posted March 24, 2004 Didn't get chance to practice my new defensive driving techniques on the way home from my "Driver Improvement Course" today - got to the end of the M57 to discover an almighty loose-belt-slipping-squealing noise and a wonderful smell of burning rubber. Managed to make it onto the hard shoulder, popped the bonnet, pulled out the airbox... plastic pulley on the tensioner completely melted away - the belt was running against the seized bearing  nice! And the total bugger of it is I went to BSL last Fri and bought a new bearing, just hadn't got round to doing it yet... ARSE! So now the plastic pulley is no more, I can't even repair the tensioner I've got :-( :-( :-(
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 24, 2004 Arse....you can buy alloy replacement pulleys from the states.....if that's any help. Otherwise it's off to the scrappy to nick a pulley from a Golf! K
stormseeker 0 Posted March 25, 2004 Well - after phoning round every breakers in the back of Autotrader and local Yellow Pages I've finally bitten the bullet and ordered a new tensioner assembly from VW £63.52 + VAT  No one seems to have any VR6 engines for breaking - they're all sold as complete units, such is the demand for them. One good thing :? the 6203 bearing is also used in my Discovery belt tensioner  so if that goes, at least I've got a spare :-)
stormseeker 0 Posted March 27, 2004 So this is what happened - can you spot where the big plastic pulley should be?
