akacheesy 0 Posted February 20, 2012 Any tips? Works fine until I put the main beam on and then the fuse blows. I have temporarily put a 25amp in there but I know that's bad practice as I have had a relay melt down with the heat generated. Clearly I have a fault but how would I check it? Any tips gratefully received.
seanl82 23 Posted February 20, 2012 Sounds like a short. Most common I think is snagging if its running along the top of the rad fan cowling. Mine was doing it, and was dropping down and rubbing on the fan, exposing the wires. Just trace the wiring and see if there is anything obvious as a first step. Mine was also causing an earth and draining the battery if not run daily too. I just took the whole loom out, and as I've got decent lamps anyway, I couldn't notice any difference! akacheesy 0 Posted February 20, 2012 Many thanks for your reply. I have checked the loom and it all seems fine. I'm beginning to think the short maybe somewhere in the wiring for the secondary main beams. I have taken the upgraded loom out & used the original connections, main beam doesn't work at all. somersetdub 0 Posted February 20, 2012 Did you make and wire up the loom yourself? I had this when I made my own uprated loom and it turned out I had two wires the wrong way round on one of the relays. I had exactly the same fault as you and with a 25amp fuse it worked, so could be worth double/triple checking that all the wires are going where they should. akacheesy 0 Posted February 21, 2012 No, I bought it off someone on the forum although I did wire it in myself but it's quite easy to wire in. As for checking it, I wouldn't know where to start. Is there a diagram on here do you know?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 21, 2012 Yeah there's a wiring diagram in my thread somewhere. I'll dig it out later.
