Just happened to mine as well! Mrs said the battery was flat.... its 1 month old! So gave the starter a whack with a hammer and hey presto! Started first time. Classic test to confirm starter motor is on the way out. Unlikely to be anything else, reckon its f****d! Going to see how much for an overhaul tomorrow, probably just worn bushes, so should be repairable instead of chucking it away. All comes down to cost. Is it cheaper to repair or buy new? I have seen new ones on fleabay for around £65/ £70. If yours is only 12 months old cant you take it back? They should last a few years at least!

Well mine is well and truly done in! Mind you I havn't changed it since owning the car for nearly 10 years now! Its a bosch one so i think i will get the same again. Thanks for the recommendation fla. Gonna give GSF a try. Bad luck Carrots, was it a bosch one?

Just been online to gsf, they are quoting £220 (£60 exchange included) for the 2kw version!! Thats a bit more than £80! Or am i wrong?
