VR-Sixy 0 Posted May 18, 2012 Hello all, just seen this on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CORRADO-89-95-HID-XENON-HEADLIGHT-HEADLAMP-XENON-CONVERSION-KIT-H4-/300619249802 It looks to do the job, but it mentions something about cambus/multiplex wiring as standard. Are '94 VR6 Corrados wired this way? If anyone can throw any light on this (lolz... no pun intended!!) would be very grateful. Cheers!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 18, 2012 No Corrados don't have 'CAN' Bus wiring. Looks like a pretty generic kit to me. They probably just sell the same thing for every H4 bulbed car, and just change the car make and model in as appropriate.

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 18, 2012 No idea. I've never tried HIDs on a Corrado. I can't see them being anywhere near as good as a car with fitted at the factory though, and Corrado headlight glasses are refracted, so won't do the beam patterns any good. ben_wooduk 0 Posted May 18, 2012 Are they not illegal retro fitted?
rickdonald 10 Posted May 18, 2012 I wouldnt bother with HID bulbs in the standard headlights mate, the beam pattern is pretty bad, not awful but pretty bad. Its really apparent when your driving on a dark motorway and passing the signs you can see the reflection, or even a massive shadow if a car is infront of you. I ended up taking them off as I imagined they would be pretty annoying to other people on the road, not really people comming the other way, (because I never once got flashed), but for people in front, I thing the reflection from their mirrors would have been pretty annoying. On another note I tried some of the projector retrofit kits you can get on ebay, with a bit of hacking at some old reflectors to fit them in properly, the beam pattern is much better, although still not as good as a factory fitted car. The cut off with the standard lense it as good as if not better than the standard headlight with halogen H4 bulb, but with the intensity of the light it still is noticable how much light gets spread in all directions. I have also noticed without the auto leveling kits you have to aim the beam abit further down which means your mainbeams dont really illuminate as far as they would with standard Halogen bulbs. If all that makes sense? Just my experience anyway.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 18, 2012 /\ nicely summed up! Again, the old adage: "You get what you pay for" rings true here. You can't possibly get OEM levels of HID performance for £39.

You can't possibly get OEM levels of HID performance for £39.99 LOL... point taken. What would be the best route to go down to get some more light out front. Loom upgrades? I'm really in the dark about all this (another pun!!... they coming out thick and fast today!!). Thanks! Edit: Just clocked these....... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Volkswagen-Corrado-Chrome-Halo-Projector-Headlights-/380439155236?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5893f0d224 Looks to be the mutt's nuts. rickdonald 10 Posted May 18, 2012 Havent had any experience of them mate, but have a look at a few pictures of them already fitted to a car, i think they make the front look alot worse. There is something about the stock headlights that make it look just right. Each to their own like, just see if you can find a few pictures of them already fitted to a car and see what you think. If I were you I'd just get an uprated loom or make one (dead easy and instructions everywhere) and get a decent set of H4 bulbs, and if you want a little more then some 100w h3 bulbs for the main beam spots. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 18, 2012 /\ As above. Makes a world of difference! With a loom and uprated bulbs, the full beam performance is all the lighting you need. Arguably better than some modern cars imo, with the beam distance and spread. What lets the Corrado down is the main beam performance. Even with the best H4s available, the light spread and brightness is pants by modern standards. But I accept that's just what Corrados are about as it's an old car and therefore old technology!
