Spare wheel and MOT question

Recommended Posts

I have my first MOT on Wednesday. I have a few spare wheel questions...

I have a space save wheel in the wheel well but it seems a little small compared to the recess. Did corrados come with space savers or full sized spares?

The space saver has wear marks on it. The tread isn't below these marks but yet it only has a couple of mm thread. Are the rules for tread different for space savers or is the tyre illegal (I assume it's probably illegal)?

If I leave an illegal spare tyre in the car will it fail the MOT?

If I take it out then will it fail because there is no spare?

Thanks.

If the spare isn't legal,it will fail the MOT

On the other hand, you don't need a spare for the MOT !

If in doubt, leave it at home !

Righto, will do. Thanks.

Did the Corrado actually have a space saver or a full sized wheel originally?

I think some of the earlier models had a full size spare,IIRC the earlier boot carpet was more humped !

A full size spare fits the wheel well, it just makes the boot a lot smaller,

I don't think that's right any more, I'm sure the spare's no longer part of the mot whether it's there or not.

The condition of the spare tyre is not part of the MOT

**An externally fitted spare wheel or spare wheel carrier must not be so insecure that it is likely to fall off** And this is not applicable to a Corrado.

Thanks all. I've taken it out to be safe. Will also get a tyre depth gauge and check it soon as I wouldn't want to need it and end up using something dangerous.
