abs light remains constant

mot failure as my abs indication light doesn't go out, having trouble working out what's wrong, what things could cause this?

VAG-COM (Computer software to read fault codes from ABS ECU/Engine ECU) is what you need any good Vw specialist should have use of it

my mate has that but couldn't get anything about the abs on it, is there a seporate plug for the abs? Its a 2ltr 8v btw

check the resistance at each connection. two are on the strut tops, two others are under the rear seats. and open circuit will indicate your faulty sensor. thats how i found my fault. if all look ok then maybe down to another fault, maybe even abs ecm. check the resistance first

My ABS fault was cleared by removing the 2 electrical plugs from the pump (took a while cos the front one was stuck on) soaking them in WD40 and cleaning them until the plug would fit easily. Long shot but worked for me and someone else on here tried it after MOT failure and did the trick for them too.

Ok, well my mate identified one kackered sensor, had that replaced but the light still stays on.. does it need resetting or something after you replace a sensor?

 

The garages diagnostic thing can't access the abs info so can't find the fault that way, apparently the ecu and abs is totally seporate, how doyou get the abs fault info? My mate thinks he has a much older diagnostic thing at work so maybe that might help?

 

Gonna try what ChrisL suggested too.

 

Anything else worth doing?

Here is a guide I did on GGTI for my Golf3, but it should be pretty similar. Once the sensor is replaced, you need to drive it to reset the ABS ECU. It will reset at about 15mph.

Thanks I will give it a read, It cant be fixed then as I drove it home at around 30 and the light didnt go out.

Oh, that guide just shows how to replace the sensor, thats already been done :(

 

Im now trying to work out how to find whatever the other fault/s may be but plugging it in doesnt give any info on ABS for some reason...

my old 1990 g60 couldnt read the ecu or obtain faults so done it old fashioned way.Check the connections on top of the brake resevoir,they stop the system working too!one wire will be for the fuild level that stops abs workn.bridge the wire with paper clip and see if the light goes off.I had the problem with abs during my coversion just because i forgot to plug it back in,it stops abs system working!
