Bean 0 Posted April 9, 2004 I seem to be using a lot of water! There are no puddles on the floor I am assuming that it is the head gasket! There is also a oil leak coming from the back of the head. Can you please give me some advice on what else needs to be done when the head is off and how much the parts will cost? Also what can be done to give it a little more power? I have a mate that said he would do the head gasket for 100 quid so i think it needs to be done soon Cheers Dan

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 9, 2004 Could be the head gasket. Is the coolant bubbling? Does the coolant smell of exhaust gas? Down on power? The electric water pump (next to the distributor/coilpack) is a common leak point as is the thermostat housing. Might want to check those areas first before doing the HG but £100 is a very good price for that work. As for power increases on the VR, it's not cheap. A good start is a schrick manifold and cams but that's 2Ks worth and won't give you 2Ks worth of extra grunt, just alters the power and torque delivery. Supercharging is about 2.5K and yields much more bang for your buck.... K
