Trilidon 0 Posted April 11, 2004 When I try to put the headlights on they never stay on , no click or anything they get bright if I hold the stalk towards me but as soon as I let it go. back down to low beams. Oh ya, and I can turn my lights on without the car being on or the key being in the ignition, dunno if that is related or not. I think this is one of the reasons my battery seems to drain after a few days if I leave it plugged in
Supercharged 2 Posted April 11, 2004 The sidelights do come on without the keys being in, it soulds like your headlights arn't working and thats why the main beam doesn't stay on! - probably either a fuse or a faulty switch
Trilidon 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Well, the headlights will go on when I pull the stalk toward me but they just dont stay on, I was thinking I might need a new stalk.... Just not sure , was hoping someone would have more info on this
Henny 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Let's just clear this up a bit.... you have main 3 settings on your headlamps... 1) Side lights - 1st click on the main headlamp switch. This will turn on the sidelights even without the key in the ignition 2) Headlamps (dipped beam) - this is the second click on the headlamp switch, and isn't the one where the blue lamp comes on in the dashboard - This will only work when the ignition is switched on. 3) Main/Full Beam - this setting will only stay on when your headlamps are on dipped beam and then you pull the indicator stalk towards you... if the headlamps are not on, then it will flash the Main beam until you let go of the stalk. This is the setting where your blue warning lamp will light on the dash board.... Which parts of this list aren't working on your car Trilidon?

Which parts of this list aren't working on your car Trilidon? 1) works 2) works 3) When I pull the stalk towards me with the headlamps on the blue light never stays on it comes on for a second while im holding the stalk then turns off, but an extra set of lights come on in the front after I hear the click( I guess the side lights turn on as well as the dipped beam). Blue light still stays off though and the lights are nowhere as bright as when im holding the stalk
andycowuk 0 Posted April 11, 2004 maybe I'm being thick.....buit this is what i am reading...... Your fullbeam works fine, but the assosiated blue warning light is only on when your are pulling the leaver.....your dipped beam is sh*te (just like everyone else without a modified headlight harness). Am I right?
Trilidon 0 Posted April 11, 2004 Ok, when I pull the stalk and hear the click the blue light flashes on for a sec and the lights get way brighter, as soon as I let go of the stalk the lights get much dimmer and the blue light goes off. This is with the light switch on dipped beam. With that said when I hear the clicking noise the side light comes on with the dipped beam, but it is still nowhere as bright as when im holding the stalk. I dont know if that is normal or not, im new to cars here, sorry if im being irritating or not explaining the problem very well.
dubbprince 0 Posted April 12, 2004 basically he's trying to say FULL BEAM doesn't work...well the stalks turns it on when you pull it towards ya...but doesn't stay on. Could it be dodgy stalk guys? :?
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted April 12, 2004 Or a relay :?

If the dipped beam was not working then the full beam would not switch perminently and just flash...
Fat Tony 0 Posted April 12, 2004 I think it sounds like the stalk as the relay must work if you hold the stalk and the lights stay on until you let go. Does the blue light stay on as long as you are pulling the stalk towards you?
Trilidon 0 Posted April 12, 2004 Yes it stays on if I hold it Ill double check right after work though to make sure.
chubbybrown 0 Posted April 12, 2004 do you have a modified wireing harness, maybe the fuse is suspect as Ive just had to change mine,it looked ok but wasnt. maybe the vibration from the motor running is causeing a contact/non contact. chubbz
Trilidon 0 Posted April 13, 2004 nope dont have a new wiring harness yet. I guess I could check out the fuse again, can't hurt right?
