Thinking of buying a 94M VR6 Dragon Green, 4 owners from new, 100k on the clock.

 

Apparently immaculate other than a "small" scratch on the bonnet.

Its from a dealer, he's asking £5995.

 

Haven't seen the car as its 200miles away.

 

Before I make the journey, is this price good??????

If its from a VAG dealer then good as the I year warranty will probably be worth a grand!

without seeing it.............tbh hard one to price....near £6k price tags normally are later and under 100k milers IMO.........where-abouts is it too?

If its mint, its not a bad price from a dealer. vr's quite often need a head rebuild around that milage. Just found out myself!!! Very expensive. Worth considering that when buying. As long as it comes with a good warrenty or some kind of back up guarantee then I wouldn't be too bothered about it.

Car hasn't got leather or AC.

 

From a dealer but NOT VAG.

 

Whats the deal with the head rebuild thing? What needs done? Cost?

 

Forgot to ask about warranty, but bearing in mind the dealer is 200miles away!!

:) Hi,

The head rebuild issue is that usually VR6's need a rebuild of the head with new guides/oil seals etc around 100k.Cost around £500-600 Check when testing for oil smoke (blue) on the overrun; especially when pulling away downhill; make sure the engine is warm. if the car's been used for lots of short journeys then it may need a head /engine rebuild much earlier than 100k as I've found out with my 57k VR. A full VAG history is no guarantee of good condition.

£5995 sounds O.K. pricewise but look at the buying guide on this forum before you inspect it.

Just my 6 pennyworth in a slightly pissed off frame of mind.

It does seem a bit on the expensive side to me considering its mileage and the number of owners. But it could be a minter, so 6k for a mint VR is good!!

However, you do see them going for 4.5 - 5k on the autotrader, and some of those have less mileage and better spec. The only real way you can judge, is by actually going to see the cars in question, and determining whether they have been well looked after or not and are likely to give you few (??!!) problems.

Yeah, I don't think there is any benifit from buying a car like a Corrado from a dealer rather than privatly unless it comes with a bloody good warranty... Infact I would rather buy a car privatly so you get to meet the person who owned it before you!

Without leather or aircon means chronically overpriced. Pay 5k tops. No real advantage buying from a dealer IMHO. Better of buying the right car and having it inspected by someone who knows what they are doing. These are specialist cars and general dealers know squat about them. make sure you have got cash left over as it WILL need work no matter what your buying.

 

Here is some perspective, seller its perfect mate. Drive 100 miles, there's rust on the sill, both bumpers have scrapes, various random scratches, dinks and donks. Seller then says yeh its perfect for 10 years old.

 

I have travelled to see many cars and know that 9.9999/10 are not worth travelling for, its sods law. Wait until one turns up locally.

well i dont regret travelling 125+(each way) miles to view and then buy mine......................one good thing tho with this forum is the fact that 9/10 most people are near to where one is being advertised.......so if anyone needs to find out if its worth travelling to view one........i'm pretty sure most ppl would go have a looksee 1st and then tell them if its worth making the effort to come up and view.......i know i would easy do this

I think you could be waiting a while to find one locally. And chances of it being a good one at your price would also be unlikely. No harm in looking, and i'll second vr6storm about happily going to see one that is local to me to help someone out.

He should find a awesome one at 6k. eg aqua blue one owner car garaged from new on fish4 at 6.5k. Its in Truro though.

I travelled over 800 miles from Belfast to Huntington and back to find my Corrado. :shock:

 

Luckily the seller was up front about it over the phone and e-mailed me some pictures. :)

Well I bought the car, Ended up paying over the odds (I think) but after 2 1/2hrs of talkin cash, he wouldn't budge an inch.

Paid £5,500.

£100k, had the head work done.

Very good nick EXCEPT an 8 inch "wave-like" scratch on the bonnet.

The guy touched it up so it doesn't look too bad but in 2 or 3 months I'll have it done professionally.

Anyone recommend anywhere in the Glasgow area? Even Edinburgh?

 

Will be picking the car up next week due to both of us swapping our reg's over.

Agree totally with VR6-er, dont bother travelling wait till one turns up locally, IMO its overpriced as well seeing as its not got

leather/AC and has done 100k - cpl of years down the line it may well be on 125k + and be worth only 3-3.5k? Wheras if you buy wisely you should not loose much (apart from running it!)

 

In my experience you really need to read through any warranty booklets that dealers give..........a lot of them are crap IMO
