Skipping cd's, are changers better?

Recommended Posts

Im getting fed up with my cd's skipping every time I hit a bump in the road. (I have a kenwwod mask single disk unit.) Does anyone know if getting a cd changer will help (do they have anti-shock) or am I stuck with jumping music.

Hi,I`ve got an antique Kenwood radio cassette with a fairly new Kenwood six disc multi-changer.Personally I think the multichanger works better than an in dash disc player head unit.I think you can protect the multi-changer more depending on how it`s mounted. The discs still jump to a certain extent, but it really depends on the size of the pot hole you hit.Thats the streets of Glasgow for you. :D :D

Hm - I have to be honest and say I have never experienced skipping with CD's in my Pioneer head unit - in contrast, a mate with a Pioneer CD changer does get skips from time to time when he hits one of the many Coventry potholes.

Are you running a modified suspension setup, or the de facto VW one?

i've got a pioneer 6 disc and if you look inside it's all very well suspended to stop the cd's jumping.

It's in my GTI at the moment but it only jumps on severe bumps.

It is mounted in the glove box tho so you might find that if you mount it near the middle or back of the car it jumps even less.

after reading jim's post, I have to admit that the pioneer head unit doesn't make the cd's jump at all (either this unit or my last pioneer one).

what head unit are you running jim?

Im on standard suspension which is in good condition I think, im also on 205/45/16's, maybe its just a problem with the headunit or just crappy cd-r's. Im pretty sure normal cd's do it too though so I will probably go for the new 10 disk mp3-cd reading changer that is now out.

I have a pioneer cd headunit it's about 2 years old now, and I haven't had any problems with skipping discs even though the susspension is hard as f**k it, all the other head units I ve had in the past have skipped alot I used to have a kenwood mask and that was a real pain in the backside it always skipped over practically every bump it went over, and my mate had a sony in his mota for a while but his also skipped all the time so I'd recommend you get a pioneer. I dont know anyone who have troubles with jumping cd's with a pioneer.

Even a semi-decent CD player (£180ish upwards) with clean heads, clean CD's, mounted securely should barely skip in a Corrado.

I currently own a Mini (C due end of the month) which was originally fitted with a new Kenwood 7080R. There is about 1" of movement at the wheel if you bounce on the bonnet - it was setup with Spax about 6/8 hardness and had 40 profile tyres - that only skipped on big potholes, which happened once in a blue moon. Mini's don't even have coil springs! Rubber cones all round! My Nakamichi MB75 has no trouble with that harsh ride either, despite their reputation for not liking harsh treatment.

I'd seriously have a look at your H/U if it's skipping often - they aren't meant to!

Sorry.. just read this finally.. I know you already know which head unit I have after talking to you on MSN..

But if it helps, we both have the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP - as I said, works very well with no CD skipping... :)
