Chaging your plugs

Recommended Posts

My self and the dad are going to do our first service on my Corrado (’94 16v) this weekend. However, from previous experience my dad says that replacing the plugs can be a problem due to plug sockets being too wide reach down into the head. :(

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a product out there that can be purchased or have you resorted to grinding down your sockets (being Snap-On my dads hesitant to do this!!).

Any help is much appreciated.

You'll need a Hazet Tool.

There may be a plastic one in your car's toolkit or around the bonnet stay.

Looks like a long plastic cylinder with some notches cut out of one end.

Ideally you want a metal one as the plastic one's quite flimsy.

VW Dealers are a little reluctant to sell them to Joe Public.

Try the local dealers first or Eurocarparts.

Here's some contact details if you're stuck (copied from a previous thread)

Hazet Part No. T10029

phone 01446721300 to order one(but might take up to 2 wks to come from germany)

Good Luck!

MikeVR6? you're on about the VR6 plug LEAD removal tool aren't you? HarrowVW has a 2.0 16V and needs a tool to remove the plugs themselves, the leads should have a handle on the top of 'em to get 'em out on a 16V, it's only the VR6 which needs a tool to get the leads off... :?

You're best bet HarrowVW is to go to halfords and buy a cheap plug socket... they should have one that's thin enough to get down the holes in the cam cover and allow you to change the plugs easily...

I found on my 16V that I even had to remove the label which was on the plug socket and then polish it so that it would fit smoothly in and turn without catching! Bit of an awkward design by VW there...

Hope this helps... 8)

Mine wasn't. He said tools with part numbers that appear on EKTA or their mainframe are fine for public sale.
