Rollers or turbo trainer

Recommended Posts

So, bike fans, what are the pros and cons of turbo trainers versus rollers for getting exercise on your bike without going out.

I can see rollers are a bit tricky to master (see here -

)

Turbos need you to replace the rear spindle and fix into the trainer?

What else do I need to know?

I've got one of the tacx turbo trainers,

You don't need to replace anything, it just locks in place in seconds.

It's so easy and adjustable resistance too.

Think turbo trainer is the better option :) Ask KIPVW for his professional opinion :)

Turbo trainer is my weapon of choice when the roads are not an option. I have one of my old bikes set up as per my regular road bike, permanently rigged onto the turbo.

I've got an elite like this one.

It's got the softer roller, saves a bit of wear on the tyres and quieter. I also use a block at the front to steady the front wheel.

Don't forget to wear your crash hat :)

Quite simple to use. plug the ipod in and go..... but I'd rather be out in the fresh air.

if your serious you can buy special tyres with a harder centre band.
