Windscreen seal problem

Well I'm pretty sure my leaky drivers footwell is because of the poor windscreen seal as the last always parked the car with car facing downward and on a slant to the drivers side so would explain why water has sat against the rubber and slowly affected the bodywork..

 

so what's the best way around curing this problem? water is definatly travelling down the inside of the car from the seal, so is it an insurance claim for a new windscreen and new seal or should I be grinding the metal back and making good?

Or just just whack some sealant in there for the time being!

Where are you based mate? I had this problem and I took mine to a specialist who removed the screen, made the necessary repairs and then refitted the screen.

Its always worse underneath! It looks pretty bad as it is from the outside, so I definately think its gonna need repair work.

yea rust is allways worse then it is, that seal doesnt actualy keep the water and wind out though, you can pull that seal out so it looks like this

 

as long as you dont stretch the seal it should push back in with no problems, the screen is wind and water tight by thick black adhesive, so its more then bad if its leaking

Point to note on this subject is that the Corrado windscreen two part rubber seal has very recently become obsolete without replacement. So guys be very careful with this seal, and advise your screen fitters not to damage it as it will need to be re-fitted. As said this seal is more a trim, as the bonding adhesive doubles as the actual seal.

Thanks for the info guys, ill check the link out too ollievr6:-) but how much did you pay?

 

Tbh the photo makes it look like the metal is as rotten as a pear but its not as bad as it looks in the pic, just a bit of surface rust, so grind back and make good i reckon is the only way?

I think I paid about £240 all in, that was re-using the screen and seals (so no new parts).

idd expect to pay more then £240..just go to a few local bodyshops and get some quotes,every place varys with the price of bodywork so dont go to just one unless your happy , it would be alot cheaper if that rust just stayed in side the window channel but it extends a few mm past the seal and onto visible paint and that needs to be refinished properly in order for invisble results, that alone would cost a couple of hudred,

Well I have a friend with a bodyshop who has amazing results, he always has his own little projects going as well, but he is not cheap but then I think when paint matching is in order you pay for what you get, so I might go see him as I need the wing spraying too.

 

So he will be able to re use the seals yeah?

body and paint isnt cheap anyway, seeing your mate is the best option here, he might be able to re use seals then again he might not, the big rubber seal he should be able to re use as for the others its all down to weather or not they have been glued in with a previous screen install.mine were and had to be cut through to get the screen out.
