PhatVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2004 Freshly installed 1994 ABV into a corrado 2.0 8v. Finally got a VR6 ECU for it, although I was told it may not be in full working order, but it was free so I thought I'd give it a go until a proper one turns up. Fired the car up, it ran for about 3 seconds then died. Now the fuel pump will not run. I''m guessing the ECU has shut it down because it's either sensed something it doesn't like, or because it's f*cked... ??? Anyway, I frigged out the pins to make the fuel pump run and fired it up again. This time, the bolt I have blocking the pipe where the carbon cannister usually enters the manifold shot out like a bullet, with a huge POP too!!! then white smoke started coming out of the MAF (I have no air filter on yet) WTF?!?! Are my injectors sticking open? they haven't been used for over 2 years, and I hear they can gum up. Can I clean them myself or do I have to send them away? Or is it something else? I have 10 days to get the car finished before GTI International....
dr_mat 0 Posted April 28, 2004 Could well be the ECU. I don't think these cars are new enough to have ECU-incorporated immobilisers, or are they? Maybe you need the immobiliser circuit and the original key that matched that ECU? Don't see why the ECU would fail with the injectors open tho.. You taken the injectors out and checked what's coming out of 'em?
Joe M 0 Posted April 28, 2004 Some of the ecus do have an immobiliser function, you could cross reference the part number against the attached document. ps. This doc is made up from info I found round various sites, it may not be 100% accurate.
PhatVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2004 fantastic, cheers for that, VERY useful
Supercharged 2 Posted April 28, 2004 Did you swap the fuel pumps over also as the 8V is a different part number to the VR?
PhatVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2004 nope. I alwys thought it had a VR6 pump in it? I always ran my VR6 off the 8v pump in my mk2's with no bother.
Supercharged 2 Posted April 28, 2004 probably fine then, the part number just has a different letter at the end?
PhatVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2004 I've got a VR6 pump anyway so I'll put that in if it struggles. I've found out the ECU is a later type, with the immobiliser built in, so that's why it's cut off the fuelling...
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 28, 2004 You could use a washing machine pump, just so long as the VR sees 4bar, it doesn't care. Good news that you've found the problem! You can either get a transponder key made up to match it, or bin it and get a non-immobilised ECU.... K
PhatVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2004 I'll wait for the other ECU, I know this one is a bit dicky anyway. it was free, so I didn't see any harm in trying it out. Still no fecking Samco's though.....

PhatVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2004 just been told it's likely that my injectors are f*cked or in need of a good clean.....more expense.
