Leather care

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps was wondering if anyone could recommend good leather care products?

Ive used auto glym cleaner which didnt really work too good!

Looking for something that will soften the darker colour in the little creases on my drivers seat.

Thanks

Ideal cheers fellas ill have a look at that gliptone

How bad are they cracked? I was hoping some decent cleaner and conditioner would take the edge off the small cracks/creases.

Agreed, Gliptone products are top quality. Have been using Gliptone cleaner and conditioner on all my own and customer's cars interiors for many years, and have never had disappointment from the results.

some time ago i was chatting to tim shaw from the old 5th gear program & he mentioned he was restoring an old 993 - he said the leather on the seats in it were quite cracked & he had used gliptone leather dye & restorer, combined with a cool iron & tea towel or similar to reduce them.

apparently the very small fatty cells discreted by us humans get into the leather & cause the cracks - thus by treating the leather with the product & then running a cool iron over it (with said cloth inbetween to protect the leather) the fatty cells are drawn into the cloth & out of the leather

ive not tried it yet myself but it is on the 'to-do' list

I use Einszett leather care now, have used autoglym, megs, gliptone, furniture clinc in the past. Couldn't believe how much dirt came off with the Einszett (i had already cleaned them with the furniture clinic stuff) but the seats turned two new cloths black/brown when using the Einszett.

I find the most important thing is keeping them clean as often as possible, your not really going to undo any ageing and cracks by rubbing a cream into a sealed leather.

The rear part of the rear head rests on my leather (facing the rear screen) seems to be the weirdet leather i have, seems really dry and no matter how much "conditioner" i apply it doesn't change the feel of it.

just came across this {not literaly eeeww errr!} , splits/cracks and scuffs on leather seats are not actualy in the leather in most cases but are in the paint used on the leather, makes sense, only real way to fix it is by re painting it,
