Looking at buying a Corrado VR6.....

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have spotted a blue Corrado VR6 on a M reg, has done 116000 miles with full VW service history and a reacaro interior.

Car is HPI clear and bodywork is in pretty good condition with no rust

It has 6 month MOT and no tax

How much should i be looking to pay for a rado in this condition??

Cheers

Welcome to the forum. Full VW service history doesn't mean much these days to be honest, especially on something as old as the Corrado.. I'd personally rather have a VW specialist service history.

But if it's clean, straight, low mileage (I'd want old MOT's to back that mileage up), and the Recaro interior I'd expect to pay about £3,000 maximum for that.

Check whether the timing chains have been done too! I'm willing to bet they won't have been.

From what you have said it could be around the £2.5k mark, but really need more info. If all the usual areas of concern on a car this age have been addressed then it would be worth around £3.5 to me (with no rust), if it hasn't been fettled and just minimum servicing then as little as £2k..need much more info and detailed photos to give a more scientific valuation?!..

Thanks for the quick response on that.

When i was looking at the car the other day i looked through all the paperwork for the car and it seemed to have every MOT apart from 2005 the paper work also including MOT Mileage reports - this did not include 2005 though.

The biggest repair that i saw in the receipts was a water pump, clutch and a number of mass airflow sensors.

The car is pretty standard apart from some dynamic alloys (pretty pants) and some poorly fitted 6x9's in the parcel shelf.

The guy wants 4k for it so thanks for the advice - possibly a bit over priced at that???

Whenever n mot is missing you have to do your homework especially when mileage report's are not adding up suggest's car has been off the road for some time why? to get repaired? best thing to do is say paperwork is not adding up and your best offer is £2k and see what kind of reaction u get if he is keen to do a deal at £2k when he was initially asking double that suspicion's should be aroused.

Mine was £4k. But that was 7yrs ago. And similar mileage. Car had aircon and recaro leather.

I wouldn't want to pay over £3k today. £2k is a bit low but really depends on the car.

Bear in mind you could find alot of things start needing replacing and you can quickly plough money into it.

Get the V5 ref number or current mot number.. go onto VOSA website and it will show all past MOT's, including mileage and failures/advisories.

In terms of price, I don't actually think 4k is impossible as a starting price if the bodywork would be mint with a polish and paintless dent removals. If you can get it down to £3-3.5 I think you could have a lovely car if it drives well.

Personally, if I were set to spend decent money though, I'd much rather read through a long readers ride thread on here than be concerned with mileage/dealer history.

It would have to be immaculate for 4k with a comprehensive history that included timing chains, etc. Without that I think 4k is too much.

We should be encouraging higher prices, maybe this guy is setting the trend and starting the rise of the corrado.

We should flood the market with £6k corrados and push the pricing up.

The Car does have the MOT Vosa report for all the mileages, I think th 05 one is not on there due to it still being on the old non electronic testing system.

Thanks everyone for the input, i will make him an offer and see how it goes - will hopefully have my first rado this weekend

Now that is a great idea!!!! lol

A little birdie told me that a popular UK motoring TV show has done some testing on their rado so fingers crossed it gets aired & gives the rado's good exposure & push prices up that way too ;)

I think we must talk to the same little birdie :) Can't wait to see the feature. Whilst it's not actually a feature on the Corrado itself, the Corrado is the car they used and I'm hoping it gets some suitable plaudits from the driver!

Ha ha excellent Jim i think your right!! ;)

I wasnt sure how much i could or could not divulge lol

Im looking forward to it myself too & it should be interesting to see the differences.

I dont know if you recall but about a year or 2 ago i put a post on here about one of the presenters of said show seeing my rado when i was at my sisters & i took him for a spin as he had never been in a VR6 flavour rado :D

fingers crossed the feature is presented in a similar way to his mindset as he couldnt get enough of it!!

Will be interesting to hear JP's comments on it? - August time I believe it will be aired.

Yeah that and some new rims and a decent air filter will sort her out a treat

If anyone has any recommendations that would be cool - wanna try and sort her ready for the run to the sun in newquay month :-D

Arguably the best air filter for the Corrado is the BMC CDA but they're not cheap unfortunately (£150 new / £100 preowned).. wheels wise, well, that's really down to individual taste. I love the original wheels like the Speedlines, Solitudes and Brands Hatch personally :)
