Fitting MKII Golf scuttle cover

Recommended Posts

Picked up a Golf scuttle tray today but for the life of me can't see how it's going to fit as the ECU is in the way. Do you have to relocate the ECU or modify the scuttle tray? Or am I just not fitting it correctly?

Does that even fit a Corrado? I know people fit passat wiper motor covers.

I got one to fit with a little modification but I'm not using the standard ECU. You do have to take off the little tray bit for catching the windscreen water.

Cheers Kip. It's the ECU that is in my way - the trays the right shape and would just slot in but the ECU is just on the end of the channel so it's stopping it sitting correctly...

Gonna have another look at the weekend hopefully so will let you know how I get on Pete

Ha! Don't hold your breath for pics of mine Geoff - the Corrados dropped down the pecking order of things I need to get sorted at the moment :(

Ok had a free half hour to go and mess about with this and my conclusion is - its not going to happen! :(

Unless you want to re-locate your ECU (which I don't for the sake of fitting a scuttle tray) or are a bit handy with fibreglassing, I wouldn't bother - you will need to modify the rain channel to go round the ECU as it just sticks out way too far. Also the nearside front and rear leading edges are a slightly different shape which isn't so much of a drama but is still more messing about than I can be arsed with.

For the time and effort it takes to try and make a mk2 or mk3 one fit its easier to get a SWG fibreglass one. Venom Motorsport usually have them at a good price.

Yeah you're right - it would be a lot easier but I wanted something more oem looking. Really not keen on the SWG/Spoonfed style ones.

I'm sure Yandards has fitted one !

Check out his build(s) thread,IIRC he used a heat gun to slightly bend one corner

Glad I didn't just go and buy one now. What about the Non hard type version? Bit more flexible from the mk2?

A bit but I wanted to keep it a surprise for you Pete :D I've cut it up so it goes on and fits nicely just need to bond the filler pieces in, fill it, sand it and paint it.

Having said that though - that scuttle tray in the pic above looks different to mine. The NS channel on the one I've got extends a lot further than the one in the pic. My brother-in-laws got an early MKII so next time I bump into him I'll have a look at his, as mine came off a late GTi so may be different.

Good stuff !

Still interested in doing this, as long as I'm not wasting my time and money.

How come you need fill and paint? :)

The NS channel on my tray extends a lot further than the one in your pic and hits the ECU so I've cut it out and shortened it but need to fill the hole thats left. It will need a skim of filler over it to hide the joins so will need painting as well :)
