easypops 8 Posted July 10, 2013 Hi all, My car has decided to not start! It's done it a few times recently, but has always started after a few attempts. Even as I write this I know that's the classic symptoms if a failed ignition switch. But I want to get it going tonight. I have bypassed other ignitions before, but its been a while, and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to PM me hotwireing instructions (pretty please) Cheers Martin Either that or it's trial and error

easypops 8 Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks mate, thought I'd seen it somewhere, but would never have found it. And it started with the wiring fix..........so new ignition switch time. Did I read somewhere that a Polo switch is the one to use? ---------- Post added at 8:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:19 AM ---------- Oops, the answer is in the wiki, part no as well :)
Supercharged 2 Posted July 11, 2013 Yeah it's a Polo part number that superseded the original... dealers may have one in stock if you're lucky! Worth getting a new key cut while you're at it if it's old / worn
easypops 8 Posted July 11, 2013 Just phoned a couple of parts depts(vw) and I have found one........£30.84! Asked for a better price and he said he'll see what he can do lol, won't find out until sat morning. Good call on the new key, might just do that :)
Supercharged 2 Posted July 11, 2013 Jesus... last one I bought was about half that but that was probably 7/8 years ago...
Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 11, 2013 I reckon each time someone buys a VW part, they add a quid to the price.

seanl82 23 Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) It was about £24 this time last year, although I'm not sure if it was the original or superseded one as I don't know when it was superseded! With regard to the key, how much do VW charge to flash a new immobiliser chip to your ECU as well if anyone knows?
