Urgent - wiper mechanism Rest position

Recommended Posts

Well I decided make the mistake of fitting new wiper arms and decided I'd replace my motor too!

I can't remember what the rest position is and now the wipers only go half way around and then on the return goes off the screen into my scuttle panned area. Anyone have a photo or a method of knowing where the rest position is? Photos would be great if you could just nip to your car and look for me. ysa2udu4.jpg

Here how mine is but something isn't right?!

Cheers.

Pete

Are you use original or Lupo/TT arms? After I swapped to Lupo GTi arms the passenger side always drops slightly into the scuttle panel, I wasn't even aware you could adjust it! You get used to the annoying noise after a while ;)

If you rotate the passenger arm upwards by one spline then it'll stop it, but then they look wrong when parked.

Replacing with lupo ones but its a little more extreme, it goes of the scuttle to the point it Jams even returning to the rested position.

Bingo!

Thanks guys. Will hopefully get them refitted up.

My new motor seems 100x more powerful than the old Corrado one

What golf did you take it from pete? Only asking as I have an old wreck of a 97 golf vr6 lying round my back and if its a straight swap I might remove the motor before scrapping it :)

Pete, don't you run a car website / forum? I would have thought you'd be more qualified than most to start threads in the right place ...

does anyone have any pics of the wiper mechanism - after dismantling and greasing it all up it looks like i've connected the arms incorrectly as the operation is all over the place! Thanks

Thanks Pete. With it being splined how do you locate the right position or does it not matter? I'm aiming to have it in the 'furthest' position. Is that right?

Just to update this - the correct position is achieved as below:

remove mechanism from car

turn it upside down

remove the 13mm nut from the motor and carefully remove the arm

connect the motor to the car and run it to get it to the reset position

connect the arm back to the motor so it and the connecting arm sides form a straight line from the motor to the wiper spindle.

tighten the 13mm nut back and you're good to go.

Should have taken some pics but its fairly obvious when you're there.
