heated seat fix

Recommended Posts

Hi all

if anyone has a problem with their heated seat, and have ruled out a faulty relay then the guide below may help.

I took apart the seat yesterday and managed to fix the heater element which resolved the problem.

Bear in mind the Stealership quoted me a labour cost of £320+VAT+£80for the new element

Anyway i hope it helps someone

1. Remove seat - usual method

2. disconnect seat heater plug

3. detach base seat from backrest but do not separate completely - they are held together by the heater loom.

To detach the base seat you push out 3 plastic plugs - but be careful when removing the plastic cover - I broke one of my pins.

Once cover is off you slide off the clip shown in the pics

you will also need to remove the main hinge screw between the backrest and bumseat.

4.Once the two parts are loosely held by the loom only, you need to remove the leather from the base seat. Be prepared for all manner of litter to fall out. I had loads of broken glass come out - evidence of a previous break-in no doubt.

Remove the leather by loosening 4 metal rings (2 on each side) and lift up the leather cover

You will then see the heater element.(see pictures) To expose the wiring cut through the fabric CAREFULLY protecting the element.

From my pic, it looked like the element had burned out as shown, but in fact the element had become detached near the point of origin into the seat. I soldered this back on, and covered the exposed wires with sticky bandage tape (the fabric sort)

Refitted everything and hey presto - the seat works!

Sure - I wasn't sure where it belonged in any case

Can you reverse the order of the pictures as well ? :D :D

Okey doke.

Can't do the pics any quicker than you - even slower in fact as I would have to save them to my PC first and then upload them in the correct order.

I will do it, if you wish .... but not at this time on Sunday night! :)
