aks_uk 0 Posted May 18, 2004 I have the wierdest problem. When I take the key out, the engine still runs (but electrics dont work). I have replaced the ignition switch (bloody tough job aswell!!) and bought a new battery and a new earth cable (old one went green). and STILL I have no luck. It takes the p**s coz I have deliberatly stall then disconnect the battery. Anyone have any ideas to what else it may be?? My cars a '91 1.8 16V. Thanx. aks_uk 0 Posted May 18, 2004 Oh yeah and I forgot to ask...does anyone know what the thin red wire on +ve and the thin brown and thin black wires on the -ve terminal of the battery are for?
exturbo2003 0 Posted May 18, 2004 why do you disconnect the battery for? is the ignition on or are you being precausious. mine did the same and it was cured by putting a live feed to the fuel pump wire output on the back of the fuse board when the ignition is off, this allowed the car to stop http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9519
aks_uk 0 Posted May 18, 2004 If I don't disconnect the battery, the lights on the dash remain on as though the key is in position 2, which of course drains my battery overnight. Thanx for the advice, I'll have a look behind the fuse box to see if anything is loose.
Henny 0 Posted May 18, 2004 there's a relay on the fuse box (known as the X relay or load reduction relay) which could well be your problem... If that's stuck connected, then this would have the same effect as having the ignition on at all times... :|
aks_uk 0 Posted May 18, 2004 X relay? do you know which one it is? how could I test it?
andycowuk 0 Posted May 18, 2004 It must be really annoying..... but maybe you should count your blessings, some cant get their cars to start

aks_uk 0 Posted May 20, 2004 I've sorted the problem (I think), I disconnected the horn fuse and now the engine turns off. I'll just have to drive it with no horn  until i figure out whats wrong. Thanks for the help guys.
