It comes from an outstanding Oettinger Golf IV, which has been created by World Group N Champions and British Group N Rally Champions – S.B.G Sport. Vehicle itself featured in many magazines at its launch time and earned a bit of its fame.

 

Vehicle with an amazing history. Specialist maintained, at all cost through its lifetime, by a most respectful name in the VW tuning business – Oettinger.

This GTI features with Motor Tuning of an astonishing AGU engine, which experienced Oettinger conversion from 150 to 230bhp.

The above is the add I purchased it from, Ive bought a VR6 now and am really not sure if I want to loose the VR6 soundtrack so am considering turbo'ing the vr so I get best of both worlds...

 

EDIT... looking for £800. also have a full engine wiring loom from a 1.8 16 valver with ECU so maybes a good shout if thinking about doing a conversion?

Please someone buy this from me before I get even more tempted to remove the VR and replace with this....cant decide what to do but If someone buys this off me I wont have a choice lol :bonk:

Seems a good price for a peice of history from a well respected tuning house.

 

I think more details of what's special about that engine over a regular AGU would help oil the marketing wheels a bit more :) Aside from the turbo, does it have stronger rods, different cams, different pistons etc etc?

 

As a newbie 1.8T buyer, it would be easy to skip this in favour of the more powerful BAM engine, unless there's something unique about this one?

Unfortunatley I think the only massive alteration to the engine from Oettinger is the turbo....This is from their website...

Like I said I am very very very tempted to pop this engine in as a replacement for my VR. Just dont know if Im ready to lose the VR soundtrack or not....

Why not stick it in and keep the VR6 engine for a rainy day? You could even slowly rebuild it over time.

 

Do you have any authenticity paperwork with it? I think a Corrado with an Oettinger 1.8T could be a good investment.

 

I'm more interested in go than noise, but I know I what you mean about the VR. it gets under your skin!

Yeah I have a booklet etc from oettinger, also the service history is stamped up by oettinger...thinking I might have to look into getting a few parts for the conversion lol

In 2001 a few of us on TDIclub.com arranged for UPsolute to fly over from Austria to Gti International and flash / remap 20 or so cars in a group buy (whilst over here they set up a few distributers for their maps whilst pocketing the cash for the maps).

 

SBG had a stand with customers cars with everything from Oetinger maps to engine conversions / body kits / huge rims and tv screens etc Their prices for maps included full VAG type warranties and were £1K plus! for a generic type map. I got talking to one of the lads on stand that had the group buy map at £800ish and after I told him my map was £167 the guy nearly burst into tears. How SBG went bust with the prices they asked god only knows..........

 

Anyone with old copies of The Golf mag, VW audi car (VW driver / Audi driver), performance VW of around this time will have adverts inside that will quote prices and what actual parts were involved in the conversions, but a large part of the huge sums they charged were for the VAG type warranties they sold packaged into the scaremongering adverts.
