jedi-knight83 0 Posted May 20, 2004 the ongoing saga of my abs.... Spoke to my mechanic who said it should be fairly easy to do the abs. He says the fluid is not under high pressure when the engine is off, infact no higher than the whole brake system unless the abs is actually working. He asked the following though "is it a bosch pump and does it bleed itself?" he thought that most bosch produced pumps bleed themselves when they start up and then it would just be a case of bleeding the brakes. Thanks for your help in advance
dr_mat 0 Posted May 20, 2004 Couldn't tell you if it's a bosch, but the ABS *does* preserve higher pressures than a standard braking system. As long as he sits there and pumps the pedal a good few times he'll probably be fine, but I think the Bentley manual always says to pump the pedal fully THIRTY times for ABS-equipped cars. Probably overkill, but they have to cover all possibilities.

I forgot about Bentley  i'll take a look in there tonight....unless anyones else knows off the top of their head now?? ta
dr_mat 0 Posted May 20, 2004 Before taking it apart, to release the fluid pressure. Not sure about the bleeding process (if there is one).
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 20, 2004 The brakes are made by ATE, including the ECU and pump. I think you need to speak to a brake specialist, like Lucas Autocentre for example. The ATE systems don't break often (mechanically) so I'd take it somewhere that knows what they're doing with ABS to make sure the work gets done properly and that they're safe.
