ChrisL 20 Posted February 11, 2014 Stripping the front subframe and I've managed to snap the horizontal bolt that holds the bottom arm. Trouble is its snapped so the bottom arm wont come off. Has anyone done this before and hows best to remove it please?

Harrier 1 Posted February 11, 2014 Nasty ! I did that & it took ages to get it out.I used an air powered saw & a bare hacksaw blade to cut through the bolt on the far side of the bush, with the wishbone off I drilled a hole in the remainder of the bolt & then mig'd a 6mm bolt into it ,unscrewed & luckily it came out. At least you have the sub frame out which will make it easier.good luck
VW_OwneR_85 2 Posted February 11, 2014 yes I had exactly the same problem m8, read here , do as mat says with drill bits. theres pics at the end of page 2 http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=55954&highlight=snapped+wishbone+bolt
ChrisL 20 Posted February 11, 2014 Thanks Daren, I did think I would have to cut it through the back part. Reckon the other one is going to do the same too. Will take it to work I think.
Harrier 1 Posted February 11, 2014 Was it your passenger side that snapped ? It's usually that side & the drivers side is often ok because it's protected by the sump & the heat from it prevents so much corrosion
ChrisL 20 Posted February 11, 2014 Yep thinking about it, it was the passenger side. The drivers side seems just as tight so that is likely to go too. Had an impact gun on it and didnt shift it.
Harrier 1 Posted February 11, 2014 Always worth a bit of heat on there too

Harrier 1 Posted February 11, 2014 You might have it a bit easier then Chris, mine snapped at front of sub frame
ChrisL 20 Posted February 11, 2014 Hopefully! once I get this stripped its powder coating and straight into the rebuild.
VW_OwneR_85 2 Posted February 11, 2014 yea mine was an absolute pig to do due to it being on the car and drilling from under the car wasnt fun but the new thread tapped good , a mm or 2 off center but worked well, with it being off the car you got it way easy ;)
ChrisL 20 Posted February 11, 2014 hmmmmm not sure how easy it will be. better then doing it on the car though i suppose.
VW_OwneR_85 2 Posted February 12, 2014 your be fine , just use good quality drill bits along with cutting/drilling lubricant and don't let the metal heat up to much,
KIPVW 0 Posted February 12, 2014 Yep one of mine did this too Chris, junior hacksaw abd then drilled out and re-tapped. Make sure you check the repair with the wishbone inplace before you get everything powder coated though as no point paying out for that if the thread you just tapped in wont hold a bolt to the correct torque. And if this is the bush we talked of earlier then yes they are available ;)
ChrisL 20 Posted February 12, 2014 Thanks Kip, I will definately check before powder coating. Dont suppose the bush part number is 357-407-182 is it?
KIPVW 0 Posted February 12, 2014 I'll check but it was definitely in Jay renshaws thread somewhere.
