Possible alternator problem?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, first of all, I'm new here so I apologise for anything I'm not doing quite right, I'm just desperate for an answer.

So my Corrado 16V 2.0 litre won't run on just the battery. I read 12 volts coming from the battery terminals, connected it to my car and no dashboard lights or anything came on, and it wouldn't start. I then connected my jump starter to the battery and the dashboard lights came on and the car started with no problem, still reading 12 volts. I read online that this could be the alternator but I couldn't be sure from that one article, I just needed other opinions.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Zak :)

Welcome Zak.

Firstly what is the state of charge of the battery? Put it on trickle charge for 12 hours and see if it holds charge. If so start the car and measure the voltage again with the engine running - it should go up to around 14volts to indicate the being charged by the alt. Try that first and come back to us.
