Timo. 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Calling vr6 guys. Anyone got a wee air filter on the engine breather pipe?? Put one on mine the other day because I was so sick of oil getting splatted all over my throttle body and air intake pipe. Must be one of the many reasons vr's burn oil. Anyway, done it, looks pretty trick. Only thing is when I slow down to stop at a junction or when dodging about town at very slow speeds I get an oily smell in the car. Fine at cruising speeds. Dont really think there is much that can be done to stop it but I was just wondering if anyone else suffers from the same problem. cheers simon
Mike Edwards 0 Posted May 31, 2004 The engine breather should connect straight into the intake pipe just before the throttlebody?
corradovr6sc 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Just run a pipe underneath the car or use a catchcan between the crankcase breather and intake like in the picture on this thread: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... c&start=
Timo. 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Cant be bothered with that carry on. Suppose I might get around to making a catch tank eventually. Mike Edwards, Emm, yeh I know that thanks. What's your point?? cheers simon
corradovr6sc 0 Posted May 31, 2004 If you put your finger inside the metal cc breather on the cam cover there should be a copper coil to trap oil. Make sure it's there. Another tip is don't top the oil up to the full mark on the dipstick but keep it slighty below, then not as much oil goes through the pcv valve. Mike Edwards 0 Posted May 31, 2004 My point would be why you would want to blow oil all over the rear of the engine bay and exhaust manifold? Even with a hose run under the car, I'm still not clear on why you'd want to drip oil. Maybe if it's not your driveway...
corradovr6sc 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Well if you don't want it to go into the intake, fouling the maf and causing a crap idle it's got to go somewhere else- into a catchcan or the atmosphere. The breather filter isn't a good idea as it drips onto the engine/manifold but with a hose the oil vaour can be directed away from these areas. Yes, onto the road if you can't be bothered, otherwise directly into a catchcan or back into the intake via a catchcan as I've already suggested. Mike Edwards 0 Posted May 31, 2004 And it would foul the MAS how - it joins the intake downstream? A coating of engine oil is one of the things that my collection of dysfunctional MAS are notable for not having*... :D An oil-soaked K&N panel filter on the otherhand will coat the MAS in oil. * And no - it's not due to the "self clean" function of the MAS on shut-down as this only applies to the filament. The whole assembly is oil free...

I wouldn't have done the mod if that was going to happen. I used an angled piece of tube and put the filter on the end of it. With the filter pointing upwards no oil comes out, not a drop. Its just the fumes that come out of the filter when stationary that cause the smell in the cabin. Hope this makes it cleaner 8) cheers for the suggestions guys. simon
